Kings MMA head coach Rafael
Cordeiro made an interesting revelation about Mike Tyson.
In a live discussion with
Chute Boxe legends including Fabricio
Werdum and “Cris
Cyborg” on the
Portal do Vale Tudo on Tuesday, Cordeiro spoke about training
Tyson to face Roy Jones Jr. on Nov. 28 in Los Angeles.
“[The] other day I was talking to him about how our partnership
started. Werdum invited me to go with him in Thailand where he and
Tyson would make a special participation in a Jean-Claude Van Damme
movie [“Kickboxer: Retaliation”]. I told Mike who would ever say
that we started when I invited him to do some pads back then and
today we would be talking about fighting for the title.”
Cordeiro was coy on giving out any more details, but he confirmed
that Tyson already has a plan to take three more fights in the
coming years. “Great fights, against big names,” guaranteed
Cordeiro.
The Kings MMA patriarch also revealed details about his daily
routine in Tyson, letting out that Tyson only wanted Cordeiro to
put on and take off Tyson’s gloves.
Cordeiro admitted, “One day I asked a close friend of his to take
one of the gloves and [Tyson] got mad with me.”
Cordeiro also confirmed that Netflix is doing a documentary with
Iron Mike. One day during filming, Tyson was in poor spirits, so
Cordeiro asked him what was happiness for him. Tyson replied,
“Happiness for me is death, because I saw many bad things and lost
many bad things in my life.”
Former UFC heavyweight champion Werdum also gave his opinion about
the partnership between Tyson and Cordeiro.
“The bond between him and master Rafael is something amazing. When
I took master Rafael to my last UFC fight in Abu Dhabi, Rafael left
someone to do pads and train him during that week, but [Tyson]
didn’t call the guy. During that week [Tyson would] rather run
around and train alone. I got really impressed by the way they are
connected and proud that the best fighter ever chose my master to
train him.”
