Newly-signed Cedric
Doumbe will make his
Professional Fighters League debut this summer.
On Wednesday, the PFL announced Doumbe as the latest addition to
its 170-pound division. The fighter took
to his social accounts to unveil he would fight for the first
time under the PFL banner in Atlanta on June 23.
βCedric Doumbe is one of the greatest athletes in the world and a
tremendous addition to the Professional Fighters League global
roster,β said PFL President of Fighter Operations Ray Sefo in a
press release. βCedric dominated the sport of kickboxing and is
poised to do the same in MMA. He is one of the most talented
fighters in the world and will make an immediate impact here in the
PFL.β
Better known as βLe Meilleur,β which translates to βThe Best,β
Doumbe completed his transition from kickboxing to mixed martial
arts in November 2021, scoring a first-round technical-knockout
victory. He then signed with French promotion Mixed Martial Arts
Grand Prix, where he scored three more stoppages. In March, he
crushed Pawel
Klimas with punches in the second period.
As a kickboxer, Doumbe piled up a 75-7-1 record and won the Glory
kickboxing 170-pound championship on two occasions. His latest
victory in the squared circle went down at Glory 77 in January
2021, when he knocked out Murthel
Groenhart in Round 2. Doumbe was really close to debuting in
the
Ultimate Fighting Championship at UFC Fight Night 209 when he
should have fought against Darian
Weeks at the promotionβs first event in France last September.
However, the French Athletic Commission didnβt sanction the fight
due to the in-cage experience discrepancy between Weeks β who had
seven MMA fights under his belt β and Doumbe, who was 2-0 at the
time. Neither the fight nor Doumbeβs UFC debut materialized.
