Editor’s note: The article has been updated at 2:10 p.m. ET to
reflect a correction made for Schulte and Ray’s weights following a
PFL error.
The 2023
Professional Fighters League season will kick off for the men’s
welterweight and lightweight divisions.
PFL 3 is headlined by an intriguing welterweight fight between
Sadibou
Sy and Jarrah
Al-Silawi. Both headliners made weight without a worry, as did
the rest of the 12-fight card. Additionally, the promotion is
dubbing the lightweight contest between Olivier
Aubin-Mercier and Shane
Burgos as the “ESPN main event” that takes place earlier in the
evening.
Sy (13-6-2, 1 NC) is coming off winning the welterweight division’s
2022 season and will look to continue his momentum. While he came
up short against Magomed
Magomedkerimov in the 2021 playoffs, his 2022 efforts were
perfect. Wins over the likes of Rory
MacDonald and Dilano
Taylor make him an early favorite to be a top contender once
again. The 36-year-old officially weighed 171 pounds.
Looking to cause an update and throw a wrench into Sy’s hopes of
repeating is Al-Silawi (18-4). An impressive five-fight win streak
was snapped in his last outing, a knockout defeat to Magomed
Umalatov. Now the Jordanian fighter has a chance at redemption
and starting his year off with a major win. “The Jordanian Lion”
weighed 170.8 pounds.
PFL 3 will stream live on ESPN and ESPN+ starting at 7 p.m. ET/4
p.m. PT on Friday. Its late card will then transition solely to
ESPN+ at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT.
