The
Professional Fighters League kicks off its 2023 regular season
with featherweight and light heavyweight action.
PFL 1 will be headlined by 2022 featherweight world champion
Brendan
Loughnane taking on a veteran test in Marlon
Moraes. Meanwhile, the co-main event sees reigning light
heavyweight king Rob
Wilkinson battle Thiago
Santos. All fighters on the 11-fight card made weight.
Loughnane (25-4) has largely been on a roll since joining the PFL.
The English fighter bounced back from a split decision defeat to
Movlid
Khaybulaev in 2021 to win all four of his 2022 fights. The
Manchester native capped off his winning season with a TKO win over
Bubba
Jenkins. Loughnane officially weighed 146 pounds on the dot for
the main event fight.
Things have been much rockier for Moraes (23-11-1) as of late. “Magic” has been on a five-fight skid since winning a split
decision over Jose Aldo. The
Brazilian most recently was knocked out by Sheymon
Moraes, which was his fifth straight KO defeat in a row. Things
won’t get any easier for the American Top Team product as he goes
up against PFL’s most heralded featherweight this time out. Moraes
stepped on the scale at 145.4 pounds.
The PFL 1 main card will air live on Saturday on ESPN and ESPN+,
starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Prelims begin on ESPN+ at 6 p.m.
ET/3 p.m. PT.
