Nathias Frederick Smashes Jamie Richardson, Retains Middleweight Belt at CW 118

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship sailed
through the second of the three back-to-back events, which went
down on Dec. 11. In the main event of
CW 118
, Nathias
Frederick
(9-2-1) defended his 185-pound championship by
rendering Jamie
Richardson
(9-6) unconscious. “Notorious” put Richardson on
high alert after the beginning of the match, dropping “Young Gun”
with one of his haymakers. After Richardson recovered, Frederick
attempted to land with his punches more and more, but he looked
unstable on his feet as if he was sliding on the canvas. Strangely,
Richardson didn’t have the same issue, and right before the end of
the round, he took “Notorious” down from where he limited himself
to control without doing any real damage.

The second stanza saw Frederick sliding again as he was looking for
the right shot to end the fight. The turning point of the contest
arrived a few seconds into the third round when “Notorious” stung
Richardson with a head kick. Frederick pressed forward and blasted
his opponent with a devastating two-punch combination that put
Richardson down for the count. The official end came 18 seconds
into the third round.

The co-main event saw Leonardo
Damiani
(9-2-1) edge Aaron
Khalid
(10-6-1) after a hard-fought welterweight battle. The
Italian fighter took the fight on short notice but dropped Khalid
early in the fight. After Khalid recovered from the shot, he
unsuccessfully attempted to impose his wrestling over “Puppy.” The
second round brought furious action as Damiani threw bombs while
trying to defend himself from the Welshman’s various submission
attempts, before “King” nailed his opponent with a spinning back
fist to nearly finish the fight. The final frame saw “Puppy”
repeatedly block all the takedown attempts coming Khalid, forcing a
stalemate. When it came to reading the scorecards, two judges sided
with Damiani, while the third scored it for Khalid, giving Damiani
the surprising split decision win.

In some middleweight action, Matthew
Bonner
(8-6-1) spoiled the return of Matt Inman
(20-11) following Inman’s three-year hiatus. “The Beast” and Inman
fought for all three rounds, exchanging hard blows with neither man
backing down. After the dust settled, the judges rewarded Bonner
with a unanimous decision victory after two scores of 30-27 and one
of 29-28.

Elsewhere, Madars
Bertholds-Fleminas
(8-2) won a unanimous decision over Mick
Stanton
(6-6) at welterweight. In a 163-pound catchweight
affair, Declan
McAleenan
(7-3) tapped out the heavy Adam Ventre
(8-5) with a rear-naked choke 73 seconds in the second round.

In earlier preliminary action, bantamweight Liam
Gittins
(6-1) bounced back from his first loss to submit
Josh
Reed
(10-5) with a triangle choke at the 68-second mark of
Round 2; Steve
Aimable
(15-8) snapped a three-bout skid by knocking out
Tom
Mearns
(6-6) with a barrage of strikes 2:12 into the first
round at a 150-pound catchweight; Ben Ellis
(3-0) stayed undefeated by taking a unanimous verdict over Kingsley
Crawford
(5-3) in the featherweight division; and Nathan
Fletcher
(4-0) tapped out Leigh
Mitchell
(3-1) with a rear-naked choke at 4:18 of the second
round in their bantamweight scrap.
