Movsar
Evloev
wants to prove himself against Ilia
Topuria
, regardless of whether there’s a title on the line.

Topuria won the featherweight title against Alexander
Volkanovski
at UFC 298 last year and defended it by knocking
out Max
Holloway
for the very time in his career at UFC 308. While
Evloev and Diego Lopes
were the frontrunners for the next featherweight title shot,
Topuria recently vacated the belt in favor of a move to
lightweight. Lopes is now scheduled to fight Volkanovski for the
vacant title at UFC
314
on April 12 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

Meanwhile, Evloev has an unfulfilled desire to prove himself
against Topuria. The undefeated Russian first wants to win the
featherweight title and chase Topuria at lightweight. Evloev
doesn’t even need the matchup to necessarily be a title fight.

“I’m making my bid for 155 pounds,” Evloev told Home of Fight. “But
first of all, I need [the featherweight] title and then I will go
after him… Not [lightweight] title necessarily but him… Because he
beat almost everyone in featherweight division, so he is stronger
than everybody here except me. And me and him only have question…
So I will let people know who is the strongest featherweight even
if we fight lightweight.”

Topuria has finished six of his eight UFC victories and every fight
prior to that. Meanwhile, Evloev has often received criticsm for
not finishing any of his nine UFC wins. However, the Russian does
own wins over the likes of Dan Ige, Lopes,
Arnold
Allen
and Aljamain
Sterling
.
