division is up for grabs in November. On Thursday, the UFC’s broadcast partner of ESPN
announced that Michael
Chiesa (18-5) will square off against Sean Brady
(14-0) at welterweight at an upcoming UFC Fight Night card. The
currently
unnumbered event on Nov. 20 is slated to go down inside the UFC
Apex in Las Vegas. News of this booking has since been confirmed by
multiple other outlets.
Chiesa is looking to bounce back from a submission defeat and his
first loss at 170 pounds with this pairing. In August, Chiesa fell
short against Vicente
Luque via brabo choke, putting an end to a four-fight win
streak that saw him claim victories over the likes of Rafael dos
Anjos and Neil Magny.
As a professional, “Maverick” has never won a fight due to strikes,
while he has never suffered a loss on the scorecards.
Philadelphia native Brady has yet to taste defeat in his pro
career, including each of his four UFC bouts since his 2019 debut.
A pair of decisions over Court McGee
and Ismail
Naurdiev got him started, while subsequent submissions of
Christian
Aguilera and Jake
Matthews extended his UFC winning streak to four. Each of the
Renzo
Gracie Philly fighter’s last eight bouts have reached the
second round at a minimum. Brady was initially scheduled to take on
Kevin
Lee in August, but a
foot infection forced him out of that contest.
There is currently no headliner booked for the UFC Fight Night
event on Nov. 20, as it was not announced that Chiesa vs. Brady
would receive that top billing. Other noteworthy matchups on the
event that will be held inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas include a
pair of strawweight tilts between Joanne
Calderwood and Alexa
Grasso, and “Loma Lookboonmee” Konklak
Suphisara vs. Cheyanne
Buys.
