In what seems to be a theme this weekend across MMA cards, a
fighter placed high on this
Legacy Fighting Alliance event has missed weight.
The second phase of the LFA’s return is coming to an end on Friday
as LFA
91 takes place in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The eight-fight
event is headlined by a middleweight bout pitting Bellator
MMA veteran Chidi
Njokuani against Cristhian
Torres.
This serves as a return to the regional scene for Njokuani (18-7, 1
NC), who had competed inside the Bellator cage since 2015. While he
faltered in his last two bouts in the promotion against Rafael
Carvalho and John Salter,
“Chidi Chidi Bang Bang” has won five of his last eight appearances.
This serves as the middleweight’s LFA debut, and he will become one
of a small number of fighters to compete for the LFA as well as its
pre-merger organizations of
Resurrection Fighting Alliance and
Legacy Fighting Championship. Njokuani had no issue making
weight and officially came in at 186 pounds.
This is the biggest fight in the career of Torres (15-10). The
Paraguay native most recently picked up a TKO win over Askar
Mozharov. “La Massacre” has fought twice under the LFA banner,
knocking out Dashawn
Boatwright and losing a decision to Mike Rhodes.
Torres officially weighed 186.8 pounds for the headlining bout,
which was .8 pounds over the limit. He has been fined a percentage
of his purse and the fight will proceed as scheduled.
The main card of LFA 91 will air on UFC Fight Pass on Friday night
starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. The lone preliminary bout is going
to be shown on the promotion’s Facebook page at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m.
PT.
