Jorge Masvidal Fractured Colby Covington’s Tooth in Alleged Attack, Faces Felony Battery Charges

More details have emerged regarding the
altercation
that occurred between UFC rivals Jorge
Masvidal
and Colby
Covington
in Miami on Monday night.

According to a Miami Beach police report, Masvidal is facing felony
battery charges after he allegedly attacked Covington while he was
walking outside the Miami restaurant Papi Steak. Covington’s name
was redacted in the police report, but
MMAFighting.com
confirmed that he was the victim in the
incident.

Covington told police that Masvidal ran up on his left and sucker
punched him two times – once in his mouth and once in his left eye
— which resulted in a fractured left tooth. Covington also
suffered an abrasion on his left wrist. After the alleged attack,
Covington claims he heard Masvidal say, “You shouldn’t have been
talking about my kids.” Masvidal made a similar statement on his
Twitter account on Tuesday.

Covington also revealed that he saw “three or four other unknown
males” coming toward him in an “aggressive manner,” so he went back
into the restaurant and contacted the police. Covington was able to
identify Masvidal by his voice and his hair, which was allegedly
sticking out of the fighter’s hoodie. Masvidal was allegedly
wearing a blue surgical face mask with his hood pulled up over his
head.

Covington and Masvidal were former training partners at American
Top Team, but their relationship soured over time, resulting in a
rivalry that built into a main event clash at UFC 272 on March 5 at
the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. That bout ended in a lopsided
unanimous decision triumph for Covington. After the defeat,
Masvidal indicated that he would settle his feud with Covington
outside of the cage because “Chaos” referenced Masvidal’s kids
during the lead-up to their fight.

“He’s still somebody that if I see him out in the streets, I’m
going to give him everything I’ve got to break his f—ing jaw,”
Masvidal said at the UFC 272 post-fight press conference. “It
doesn’t matter if I lost wrestling scrambles tonight, I still think
he’s a f—-ing p—y.”

Masvidal is a Miami native, and Covington now lives in the city, as
well.
