After fighting three times in four months on the European regional
circuit at the end of 2022, Jorge
Luiz Bueno Jr. was enjoying some time off during the Carnival
Holiday in Rio de Janeiro when a phone call brought an abrupt
change of focus.
“My training partner Joilton ‘Peregrino’ called last Saturday in
the middle of Carnival offering a fight (at KSW 79) the following
Saturday against Dominik
Humburger, a local undefeated fighter from Czech Republic.
Since I’m always ready, I immediately accepted,” Bueno told Sherdog
upon arriving at the fighter hotel on Wednesday.
Bueno will face Humburger in the KSW 79
co-main event on Saturday at the Home Credit Arena in Liberec,
Czech Republic. The card is headlined by a heavyweight title fight
between Philip De
Fries and Todd
Duffee.
After earning back-to-back first-round finishes while fighting in
Sweden and the Czech Republic, Bueno is not concerned about facing
Humburger in his home country.
“When I fought Marek
Mazuch last September at Oktagon 35, he was also 5-0. Humburger
is a tall striker, very aggressive, but I thought his jiu-jitsu was
really limited,” said Bueno, who is a black belt in Brazilian
jiu-jitsu and Luta Livre. “I have no doubt he will try to keep the
fight standing, but I’ve been training a lot of boxing with
renowned national champion Erivan Conceição and wrestling with the
former trainer of Brazilian National Team, Tussa Yusad. I´m ready
to face him both standing up and on the ground.”
Bueno has designs on fighting for a KSW title before eventually
transitioning to the UFC. While the matchup with Humburger will be
contested at 185 pounds, the Brazilian hopes to return to
welterweight soon.
“I’m coming from three fights at middleweight. I performed well,
but I’m short for that division,” he said. “My goal is to
return to my original division, where I think I can perform better.
My main goal is to give a great show Saturday, and convince the
promotion to give me a title fight soon.”
