Jiu-jitsu legend Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida already knows who he will fight against in
his MMA debut for One Championship on Feb. 24.
According to an initial report from
Combate, Almeida will square off against Oumar “Reug
Reug” Kane from Senegal. Sherdog.com confirmed the booking with
sources close to the Brazilian fighter.
“Reug Reug” gained fame due to his exploits in the Senegalese
combat art Laamb, which is folk wrestling that allows blows with
the hands. The 28-year-old heavyweight then signed with Ares FC and
knocked out Sofiane
Boukichou in the second round last December in his MMA
debut.
The owner of the record for gold medals at the World Jiu-Jitsu
championships with 13, Almeida has recently been training at
American Top Team. The Brazilian fighter previously helped Daniel
Cormier and Cain Velásquez in some of their camps, but never
ventured into MMA until now.
The One Championship event is expected to take place at Singapore
Indoor Stadium and is headlined by a flyweight championship clash
between Adriano
Moraes and Demetrious
Johnson.
