Blachowicz is scheduled to fight Carlos
Ulberg at UFC
Fight Night 255 at the O2 Arena in London on Feb. 22. While the
former light heavyweight champ primarily has a striking-heavy game,
Blachowicz won’t hesitate to use his wrestling if needed. Although
Blachowicz will be returning to the Octagon after a hiatus of more
than a year and a half, the matchup against Ulberg could be a
potential title eliminator. And the Polish powerhouse plans to
focus on rallying for a title shot if he gets his hand raised.
“He [is a] standup fighter, I am standup fighter,” Blachowicz
recently told James
Lynch. “But you know, if I have to go use my wrestling, I will
go and do it. It’s MMA, so… But I like fighting standup so for sure
people are gonna see a lot of punches…I would like to win before
time… I think if I win this fight in a good way, anyway I will
start talking only about the title, nothing else.”
While Blachowicz will mostly be training at the WCA Fight Team, he
will be spending a few days at another facility prior to the fight,
which he refused to name. The 41-year-old is confident in his
skillset but wants to mold his training regimen a little to develop
his gas tank.
“[The camp is] a secret for now… I need to change something,”
Blachowicz said. “Because 42 [years] almost. So I need to train in
a little bit different way. But we are gonna do similar things. I
know how to beat people; I know how to fight. I have to focus about
the most – I don’t want to be tired in the fight. So I have to
focus on the cardio. I have got everything. I have got knockout
punch power, I’ve got good striking, I’ve got good wrestling, I’ve
got good jiu-jitsu game. I need to focus about the cardio. Because
last time, with Pereira, my breath was very heavy, I don’t want to
do this mistake anymore.”
Blachowicz last dropped a split decision against Alex
-Pereira-224511″>Alex Pereira at
UFC 291 in July 2023 and is 1-2-1 in his last four, which includes
a draw against Magomed
Ankalaev. Meanwhile, Ulberg is riding a seven-fight winning
streak, including five finishes.
