Jan
Blachowicz came away impressed by the seemingly ageless
Glover
Teixeira after the Brazilian veteran dispatched Thiago
Santos in the UFC on ESPN 17 headliner Saturday night.
“Great fight and incredible run by [Glover
Teixeira],” Blachowicz wrote on Twitter. “You totally deserve
to fight for the title and get a taste of the
#legendaryPolishPower.”
“If Adesanya can’t wait till March, let’s go.”

Last week, UFC president Dana White announced that Blachowicz would
make his first light heavyweight title defense against 185-pound
champion Israel
Adesanya at a future event. Meanwhile, the Polish veteran
revealed that he wouldn’t be able to return to action until
March at the earliest, citing the birth of his first child along
with the ongoing COVID-19 situation in his home country.
“I can fight in March with anybody,” Blachowicz said. “It’s no
problem for me. But I cannot fight any earlier than March. If
Israel wants to wait, no problem.
“In Poland right now, the situation is not so good, and we don’t
know what’s going to happen tomorrow, the day after tomorrow. Right
now we train normally, but nobody knows what our government is
preparing for. We’ll see what’s going to happen later.”
Teixeira’s five-bout winning streak, which includes finishes of
Santos and Anthony
Smith, both of whom went the distance against Jon Jones, has
made things more complicated in the light heavyweight division. UFC
president Dana White acknowledged that the 41-year-old is deserving
of another shot at 205-pound gold on the ESPN+ post-fight show.
“It’s something we need to figure out,” White said. “But I heard
him, I agree with him and I’m taking him serious. I’m not going to
doubt this guy anymore.”
