Jack Cartwright Submits Gerardo Fanny, Retains Title at CW 115

It was a quick night at the office for the defending champion. The CW
115
card was headlined by the championship battle between
Jack
Cartwright
(9-0) and Gerardo
Fanny
(9-2). It took just over two minutes for Cartwright to
secure the victory, doing so with style points. The British fighter
relocated the action to the floor as soon as the fight started, and
after a few scrambles, he locked an arm-triangle choke that forced
Fanny to tap. The win was Cartwright’s fifth by submission, and all
five have come in the first round.

In the co-main event, former middleweight champ James Webb
(8-2-1) clashed with
Ultimate Fighting Championship
vet Craig White
(14-12). “The Thundercat” moved up to the middleweight division,
hoping to snap his four-bout skid, but it wasn’t meant to be. After
dragging White to the mat, Webb imposed his grappling on his
hapless opponent. After landing unloading with heavy
ground-and-pound, Webb locked up a slick arm-triangle choke at the
3:24 mark. The former champion is now riding a two-bout win streak,
with a revived focus at getting his title back.

At the end of the fight, White left his gloves in the center of the
cage, indicating that he was retiring after suffering five
consecutive defeats at the hands of fighters like Neil Magny,
Diego
Sanchez
and Webb.

In a 155-pound scrap, Jack Grant
(16-5) submitted Yassine
Belhadj
(6-3) with a tight guillotine choke that ended the
contest at the 2:16 mark in the opening stanza.

Earlier on the card, Weslley
Maia
(6-4) forced Adam Wilson
(5-1) to quit on the stool at the end of the first round. The
Brazilian battered his British foe with a constant barrage of
strikes and vicious leg kicks that hobbled Wilson. In a
welterweight affair, Ian Garry
(4-0) picked George
McManus
(2-2) apart with punches and a devastating head kick to
force referee intervention at the 3:17 mark of the second
round.

The card lost four matches a few hours before starting, mostly due
to fighters or their corners testing positive for COVID-19.
