On Tuesday, Invicta Fighting Championships announced its
return to pay-per-view with the upcoming Invicta FC 44: A New Era.
It will be the promotion’s first pay-per-view since Invicta FC 7,
which took place on Dec. 7, 2013. After that, the promotion signed
a deal to broadcast its events on UFC Fight Pass. The agreement
held since Invicta FC 43, after which the promotion aired on Axs
TV.
Fans can order the Invicta FC 44 event on Fite.tv for $19.99 in the
United States, $14.99 in Canada and $9.99 in the rest of the world.
For the occasion, the card will feature a pair of title fights. The
main event will crown a new straight queen as Emily
Ducote and Danielle
Taylor clash for the vacant championship. In the co-main event,
Lisa
Verzosa faces Taneisha
Tennant for the bantamweight title.
“I’m excited for our athletes to showcase their skills on
pay-per-view again,” said Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp in a
press release. “These title fights feature some of the most
talented women in mixed martial arts and I can’t wait to watch
these amazing match-ups.”
Bellator MMA vet Ducote (9-6, 2-1 Invicta)
earned her title shot following her victory over Juliana
Lima in the Invicta FC 40 headliner. Prior, “Gordinha” stopped
Janaisa
Morandin with punches at Invicta FC 36 before losing a narrow
split decision to Kanako
Murata. While Ultimate Fighting Championship alum Taylor (11-5,
1-1 Invicta) suffered a defeat in her latest walkout in Invicta FC,
“Dynamite” bounced back on track after edging fellow UFC vet
Jessica
Aguilar at XFC 43.
Verzosa (6-1, 5-1 Invicta) has recently outpointed via split
decision Raquel
Canuto at Invicta FC 42. Before that, she lost to Julija
Stoliarenko at the Phoenix Series 3, a defeat that snapped a
five-bout winning streak. Tennant (3-1, 2-0 Invicta) is the Phoenix
Tournament winner, where she upended in the same night Hope Chase
and
Brittney Victoria Grizzelle in pro exhibition matches before
laying claim to a unanimous decision over Taylor
Guardado. In her latest fight, she dropped a decision to
Danyelle
Wolf at the Dana White’s Contender Series in September
2020.
Invicta FC 44: A New Era will take place at the Memorial Hall in
Kansas City on Aug. 27. The prelims will be broadcast in the U.S.
on AXS TV and streamed for free worldwide on Invicta FC’s YouTube
channel beginning at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. The main card will start at
10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.
