Two light heavyweight sluggers are set to throw down in the main event of UFC Sao Paulo in September, with Glover Teixeira and Jimi Manuwa scheduled for five rounds, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced on Friday.
Both Teixeira (27-7) and Manuwa (17-4) are coming off of recent setbacks, with Manuwa on the heels of a disappointing two-fight losing streak and Teixeira dropping a decision to Corey Anderson last month. The two light heavyweights were recently top contenders in the division, making a win for either man crucial in their pursuit of UFC gold.
Manuwa especially will be looking to bounce back from a deflating 42-second knockout loss to Volkan Oezdemir last year. Meanwhile, the Brazilian has alternated wins and losses over the past few years, earning a much-needed TKO victory over Misha Cirkunov last Dec.
UFC Fight Night: Teixeira vs. Manuwa will air live on FS1 on Sept. 22, with fellow UFC veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira taking on Sam Alvey on the undercard.
