Gennrich secured the
Legacy Fighting Alliance lightweight championship in the final
frame of his LFA
174 main event with Jacobi
Jones on Friday at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake,
Minnesota. Jones missed weight by 0.2 pounds and was ineligible to
compete for the title.
The first round saw both fighters feel each other out and exchange
strikes on the feet, with Jones arguably getting the better of
Gennrich with his leg kicks. As the fight progressed, Gennrich
(8-2), known for his grappling prowess, continued with his
forward-pressure strikes and eventually racked up a considerable
amount of control time with his superior grappling in the following
rounds. In the fourth frame, Jones (6-3) managed to land a few
shots on the feet and even came close to securing his opponent’s
back, only to be reversed and threatened with submissions and
vicious ground-and-pound for the remainder of the frame.

Having come very close to the finish in the previous frame,
Gennrich seemed to have Jones’ number. The 30-year-old was quick to
take down Jones with a single-leg in the first 20 seconds of the
fifth. In the end, “Machine Gun” submitted his opponent with an
arm-triangle choke at the 2:01 mark of Round 5.
In the co-main event, undefeated bantamweight prospect Quang Le (7-0)
recorded his seventh professional win with a devastating Round 1
technical knockout. Going up against Missouri’s Cody
Peterson (6-2), it did not take too long for Le to find his
target and land a heavy lead head kick that sent his opponent down
to the canvas. The Wisconsin native continued his assault with some
follow-up shots until referee Bryan Miner stepped in at the 1:05
mark of Round 1.
Meanwhile, Wesley
Schultz (5-1) recorded a Round 1 TKO at the 1:52 mark of his
middleweight meeting with Maurice
Morris (6-4). Schultz landed a sneaky head kick one minute into
the fight and eventually took his opponent’s back. Having
established a dominant position against a visibly hurt Morris,
“Party Time” unloaded a barrage of punches until referee Chris
Klavetter decided to step in.
In the only bantamweight matchup of the night, Adamu Isah
(4-1) recorded his fourth professional victory via unanimous
decision against Devante
Sewell (11-9), who was hoping to secure his first victory under
the LFA banner in his third stint with the promotion.
The women’s strawweight meeting between Jayde
Sheeley (2-1) and Kendra
McIntyre (2-1) ended with a controversial disqualification loss
for McIntyre at the 2:50 mark in Round 1. Sheeley was in the
process of securing an armbar against her opponent when McIntyre
opted to illegally kick Sheeley in the face while hoping to escape
the submission. After reviewing the footage, Miner declared Sheeley
as the winner via disqualification.
The first bout on the main card between heavyweights Steven
Asplund (2-0) and Billy Ray
Valdez (2-1) ended with a TKO victory via doctor stoppage for
Asplund at the 4:48 mark of the first frame.
In preliminary action, heavyweight Alvin Hines
(2-0) walked away with a Round 2 keylock submission victory against
Will
Johnson (1-4), and Kelton
Sneve (2-0) earned a TKO victory against Coty
Scott Milhausen (3-3) in the dying seconds of the first frame
of their lightweight clash.
In the only women’s flyweight bout on the card, Cheyanne
Bowers (3-1) extended her winning streak to three with an
armbar submission win against Whittany
Pyles (4-6) at the 3:52 mark of Round 1, while the middleweight
meeting between Zeb Vincent
(2-0) and Herbert
Rogers-Williams (0-1) ended with disqualification win for
Vincent after Rogers-Williams landed an illegal knee to the groin
of his opponent halfway through the first round.
Additionally, featherweight Taner
Trembley (1-0) kicked off his professional mixed martial arts
career with a rear-naked choke win against Dylan
Smerillo (0-1) 2:11 into Round 1, and light heavyweight
Mervin
Miller improved his record to 5-0 with an arm-triangle choke
submission Kory
Moegenburg (3-7) with 71 seconds remaining in the first
frame.
The first two bouts on the card witnessed Ezayah
Gomez Oropeza (2-0) secure a TKO victory against Jesse Midas
(1-1) in their heavyweight clash at the 1:58 mark of Round 1, while
featherweight Xavier
Rosenbloom (3-1) walked away with a unanimous decision victory
against another Ignite Fights alum in Dalan Jones
(1-1).
