The Ultimate Fighting Championship has put together
an absolute banger at 155 pounds for May.
On Thursday, Matt
Frevola (10-3-1) broke the news on Twitter
that he will be fighting Drew Dober
(26-11, 1 NC) at UFC
288. The two lightweights will toe the line at the Prudential
Center in Newark, New Jersey, on May 6. Dober confirmed their
pairing shortly after Frevola’s announcement, doing so on his
Instagram.

The two 155ers combine with momentum at their respective backs,
with five straight knockouts between them. Dober has rattled off
three straight, with a triumphant 2022 campaign that began with a
wild collision with Terrance
McKinney, led to a battle against Rafael
Alves and concluded with a thrashing of Bobby Green
in December. The first victory against McKinney put an end to
Dober’s first two-fight skid in years, as he dropped two in a row
in 2021 to future champ Islam
Makhachev and Brad
Riddell. While he posts a career knockout rate of 50%, the
Elevation Fight Team product has notched his last six wins via
strikes.
Frevola has won his last two, bookending 2022 with a January
knockout of Genaro
Valdez and a November flatlining of then-unbeaten Ottman
Azaitar. Like his opponent, Frevola also put an end to a
two-fight losing streak from the year before, as he fell short
against Arman
Tsarukyan and had his lights shut out in seven seconds by
McKinney. Two of the three career strike stoppages for “The
Steamrolla” have occurred in his last two outings, with his first
coming back in 2015.
UFC 288 goes down at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey,
on May 6. The headliner will see Aljamain
Sterling defend his bantamweight throne against former king
Henry
Cejudo. Additional matches likely to take place on the main
card include a lightweight scrap between Charles
Oliveira and Beneil
Dariush, as well as a women’s strawweight contest as Jessica
Andrade faces Xiaonan
Yan.
