Conor
McGregor and Dustin
Poirier have already squared off within the confines of the
Octagon. Now the two UFC stars seem interested in stepping outside
the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas-based promotion to fight for
charity.
McGregor and Poirier on Monday engaged in a discussion on Twitter
regarding a potential MMA exhibition in Ireland on Dec. 12.
Proceeds would go toward Poirier’s charity, The Good Fight
Foundation and some other organizations of McGregor’s choosing.
“Hey bro! You want to do an MMA charity fight? Zero to do with the
UFC,” McGregor wrote. “I will donate half a mill towards your
charity for it. Sell it on PPV or work a TV deal and we work out
other charities that are close to my heart also. I am engaged in
many. Strictly a charity ‘exhibition.’
“December 12th in the Point Depot, Ireland. No weigh ins. Open
weight, unified rules. I will arrange all travel fare for you and
family. McGregor Sports and Entertainment MMA, in association with
The Good Fight Foundation. Charity Mixed Martial Arts!”

Poirier didn’t take long to agree to those terms.
“I’m in! Lets do it!” Poirier wrote. “A lot of people will benefit
from this.”

Even though McGregor and Poirier seem interested in the possibility
of the charity bout, both are under UFC contract, which would
seemingly be a major obstacle to overcome. McGregor has recently
publicly expressed his displeasure with the promotion, leaking a
conversation with Dana White that seemed to indicate his
willingness to face Diego
Sanchez. In more recent tweets he claimed the UFC has sidelined
him since his win over Donald
Cerrone in January.
“I asked for May you fat fool, what you saying?” McGregor wrote in
response to Daniel
Cormier’s doubt that the Irish star is truly willing to face
anyone. “I fought in January and tried to go again but was
purposely held back to be an alternate for a July fight. Wait 7
whole f—ing months and “maybe” I’d get to fight? Are you stupid?
What are you saying mate?”
“I asked for May vs ANYONE!”

Poirier, meanwhile, was in negotiations to face Tony
Ferguson at UFC 254 but was
unable to come to terms with the promotion.
McGregor and Poirier locked horns in a featherweight bout at UFC
178, with the “Notorious” one winning by first-round technical
knockout.
