Colby Covington is back in the news as he waits for the Ultimate Fighting Championship to officially announce his welterweight title challenge against the newly-crowned champion Kamaru Usman later this year. However, “Chaos” will need to be patient, as the promotion is unlikely to announce anything until Usman recovers from his recent hernia surgery.

Covington was a guest on Submission Radio and was asked if he would consider taking a catchweight fight against the undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. “The Eagle” has been in the news thanks to his ongoing Twitter feud with former two-division champion Conor McGregor.

Covington said that if he were to fight Nurmagomedov, it would be the easiest challenge for him in his career so far. “Yeah, I mean it’s an easy fight. He’s already asking to fight Georges St. Pierre in between welterweight and lightweight,” Covington said (transcription via BloodyElbow). “I can make it between welterweight and lightweight because I’m not a big welterweight. It’s going to be more rewarding to smash two of Ali [Abdelaziz]’s biggest clients and just leave him crying.”

The outspoken welterweight would then call Nurmagomedov his easiest opponent to date. “He’s small and he doesn’t even do what I do as good as I do it. He can’t wrestle as good as me. He’s never faced a high-level Division I All-American, a kid who has been wrestling his whole life. That sambo s—, that [is] weak. If wrestling was easy, it would be called sambo, but it’s not. It’s called wrestling.” Advertisement
