Chihiro Suzuki Outpoints Ren Hiramoto at Rizin ‘Landmark Vol. 2’

Chihiro
Suzuki
won for the fifth time in six appearances, taking a
unanimous decision against Ren
Hiramoto
at Rizin ‘Landmark Vol. 2’ in Tokyo, Japan, on
Sunday.

The former Pancrase competitor set the tone in an opening frame in
which he outlanded Hiramoto (0-2, 0-2 Rizin) by a 40-to-23 count in
total strikes, according to statistics provided by the promotion.
While the striking gap narrowed over the final two frames, Suzuki
(7-3, 2-1 Rizin)) also landed the fight’s only three takedowns and
secured 2:51 of control time against his opponent.

Hiramoto, a former kickboxer who competed K-1, was making just his
second professional MMA appearance. While he showed no quit,
particularly during some spirited exchanges, Suzuki authored the
bout’s most significant moments, including buckling Hiramoto with a
right hand and a nifty throw that put his opponent on the
canvas.

In the co-main event, Hiroaki
Suzuki
(2-1, 2-1 Rizin) made short work of Shoji
Maruyama
(17-16-1, 1-3 Rizin), winning via technical knockout
in just 72 seconds in a featherweight affair. The man known as the
“General Killer” ended Maruyama’s night in emphatic fashion,
dropping his foe with a left hook and adding a follow-up soccer
kick for good measure before referee Minoru
Toyonaga
stepped in to halt the carnage.

In other action, Kuya Ito
(11-7, 1-1 Rizi) garnered a unanimous verdict against Mamoru Uoi
(24-11, 2-2 Rizin) at featherweight, and Kosuke
Terashima
(15-17, 1-0 Rizin) earned a split-decision triumph
against Takuma
Masuda
(6-2, 0-1 Rizin) in a 139-pound catchweight affair.
