Mayra Bueno Silva Plans Return to Bantamweight, Hopes to Face Irene Aldana

Mayra Bueno Silva has seemingly given up on her flyweight title aspirations.

While Silva started herUltimate Fighting Championship career at flyweight, she soon moved up to bantamweight, where she had a lot of success. However, “Sheetara” dropped backed to flyweight for her last outing against Jasmine Jasudavicius this past February. Silva suffered a unanimous decision loss against the Canadian at UFC Saudi Arabia, which put her on a three-fight slump.

Silva revealed that the UFC advised her against moving down to flyweight for her last outing. Having failed to deliver the show she had promised, Silva has now decided to move back to 135 pounds for good. The Brazilian has already called for a matchup against Irene Aldana, who is seemingly down with an injury at the moment. Silva hopes to trade leather against Aldana at Noche UFC in September or sometime later this year.

“I have a dream [of] fighting flyweight for the belt but it’s not for me… I’m back at my…

Charles Oliveira Targets Title Bout vs. Islam Makhachev at International Fight Week

At the moment, it remains unclear which title fight — or fights — will top the lineup for UFC 317 on International Fight Week.

After Magomed Ankalaev stated that he doesn’t want to wait until October in Abu Dhabi for a rematch with Alex Pereira, speculation began that the light heavyweight rematch could serve as the main event for that card.

Meanwhile, Charles Oliveira has thrown his hat into the ring for another potential featured bout at UFC 317. Recently, reigning lightweight champ Islam Makhachev indicated that former 145-pound king Ilia Topuria should win one fight against a contender before receiving a title shot in the new weight class. Meanwhile, the Georgian-Spaniard issued a scathing response to Oliveira after “do Bronx” stated he didn’t see Topuria as a big fight.

“You have 10 losses: [five] by knockout, [four] by submission, and [one] by decision. You are the contender, while I am the champion, the father of the entire division,” …

Carlos Ulberg Eyes Title Contention Following Victory at UFC London

Jan Blachowicz was a measuring stick fight for Carlos Ulberg.

The City Kickboxing representative proved himself in the UFC London co-main event, taking a closely-contested unanimous verdict over the former light heavyweight champion at the O2 Arena on Saturday.

“If you look at the current champion [Magomed Ankalaev] and the former champion [Alex Pereira], their last fight with Jan Blachowicz was a very close fight, as well,” Ulberg said at Saturday’s post-fight press conference. “I beat him with a unanimous decision, so it’s a very good feat for me.”

The triumph wasn’t a thing of beauty, especially for someone who had finished five of his previous seven Octagon opponents. However, Ulberg acknowledged that it’s often difficult to look good against someone with Blachowicz’s style.

“We knew he was gonna come out tough and exactly how he came out,” Ulberg said. “He’s very good at lulling you to sleep. He’s very good at kind of putting this press…

Sean Brady on Win vs. Leon Edwards: ‘I Did a Lot Better Than Belal Did’

Sean Brady dominated Leon Edwards in a way no previous opponent had — and that includes reigning UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad.

The Renzo Gracie Philly product earned a signature victory in the UFC London headliner on Saturday when he submitted Edwards with a fourth-round guillotine choke at the O2 Arena. It was the Englishman’s second straight defeat after he previously relinquished the welterweight crown to Muhammad at UFC 304 last July. Brady was the first person to finish Edwards in 28 professional bouts.

“I think I did a lot better than Belal did. I think Belal lost a couple of rounds. He had his back taken for an entire round. I think it was 3-2 when they fought,” Brady said at the UFC London post-fight press conference. “I dominated Leon every round. No one’s ever did it like me. Then I submitted him and made him quit in front of his hometown.

“If we were in Philly, you ain’t making me quit in front of my hometown, I’ll tell…

Ilia Topuria to Charles Oliveira: ‘I Am the One in Charge’

Ilia Topuria is trying to assert himself among the lightweight elites.

Topuria won the featherweight title by knocking out Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 last year and defended it by knocking out Max Holloway at UFC 308. “El Matador” then recently vacated his title, citing a lack of fresh contenders at 145 pounds — though an arduous weight cut may have had something to do with that move.

While Topuria has been plotting an immediate title shot at lightweight, the Georgian-Spaniard might have to prove himself against a legitimate contender at 155 pounds first. Former champ Charles Oliveira recently removed his name from the mix, saying a matchup with Topuria won’t be enticing enough until the former featherweight champ has fought a seasoned lightweight.

Responding to “do Bronx,” Topuria claims he isn’t asking for any favors. Topuria proclaimed himself the “father of the division” while granting Oliveira contender status based on his career lo…

Jiri Prochazka Trades Barbs with Magomed Ankalaev After UFC London

Jiri Prochazka is eyeing a title shot against Magomed Ankalaev.

Prochazka has been plotting a title shot against Ankalaev since the Dagestani dethroned Alex Pereira at UFC 313 earlier this month. However, Ankalaev has another matchup in mind for Prochazka following UFC London.

Surging contender Carlos Ulberg defeated former champ Jan Blachowicz via unanimous decision in the co-main event at UFC London on Saturday. Ankalaev suggested a matchup between “Black Jag” and Prochazka, calling the Czech “fake ninja” to mock his bushido lifestyle.

Prochazka called Ankalaev a “fraud champion” in response while questioning the integrity of his social media posts. “BJP” also said that he is willing go through other tests to fight Ankalaev, which means he isn’t exactly shying away from a potential fight against Ulberg.

“Who wrote it, you? Or some your slave? Here you showed to everyone who’s fraud champion,” Prochazka wrote on X. “Like I said, I want…

UFC London Bonuses: Sean Brady Leads Four ‘Performance of the Night’ Winners

Sean Brady received some extra compensation for the most significant victory of his career to date.

The Renzo Gracie Philly standout was dominant throughout the UFC London headliner, as he outgrappled Leon Edwards before submitting the former champ with a guillotine choke at the 1:39 mark of Round 4 in their welterweight bout. That effort earned Brady a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus.

Meanwhile, Kevin Holland took home a $50,000 peformance check for a unanimous decision triumph over Gunnar Nelson in the evening’s co-main event. Holland dropped his foe in the opening stanza and engaged in multiple entertaining grappling exchanges over the course of the three-round affair.

Elsewhere, Octagon newcomer Alexia Thainara pocketed $50,000 for her submission of crowd favorite Molly McCann in a featured strawweight clash. The Brazilian was able to ground “Meatball” early and then move to her opponent’s back, where she locked in her second attempt at a rear-naked …

Sean Brady Dominates, Throttles Leon Edwards at UFC London

Sean Brady may have just made himself undeniable as a welterweight title contender.

In the main event of UFC Fight Night 255 in London’s O2 Arena, the Philadelphia native put in a thoroughly dominant performance, grounding Leon Edwards in every round and mauling him with strikes and submission attempts en route to a fourth-round finish. Brady took it to the former champ right away, surging forward behind a flurry of punches. “Rocky” remained calm, giving ground and looking for counter opportunities. Nonetheless, Brady’s volume and aggression kept Edwards on the back foot for much of the first round. The second frame was less ambiguous, as Brady grounded Edwards early, then went to work. The Daniel Gracie protégé took Edwards’ back, where he locked up a body triangle, pelted him with strikes from behind and looked to set up a choke. Edwards escaped back mount, but Brady remained all over him, moving to regular mount and briefly threatening with a kimura. Edwards survived to …

UFC London Prelims: Chris Padilla Turns Away Jai Herbert

Getty Images/UFC

Chris Padilla may not be able to sneak up on the Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight division for much longer.

In the featured prelim of UFC London on Saturday at O2 Arena, “Taco” spoiled Jai Herbert’s UK homecoming in a matchup that promised fireworks but failed to deliver them until the final round. Round 1 was a tentative five minutes, with the hard-hitting lightweights seeming to struggle to deliver their power to their opponent’s chin. Padilla appeared stymied by Herbert’s enormous reach and height advantages, while Herbert was content to chip away at range, wary of Padilla’s takedown attempts. That dynamic carried over to the middle frame, but gradually gave way to a close-quarters, clinch-heavy slog. Padilla finally secured a hip toss only to have “The Black Country Banger” bounce back to his feet instantly. Ultimately, Round 2 was another near stalemate, difficult to score. Herbert came out aggressive in…

Paddy Pimblett, Ilia Topuria Appear to Settle Beef at UFC London Weigh-ins

Paddy Pimblett and Ilia Topuria finally appear to be on good terms.

Their beef initially began due to Pimblett’s controversial remarks about Topuria’s home country of Georgia. The two then came across each other at a fighter hotel ahead of a UFC London card in March 2022, when “The Baddy” threw a bottle of hand sanitizer at Topuria.

While the two have since traded multiple barbs over the years, they weren’t on a collision course until recently. There have been talks of a potential future clash between the two after “El Matador” vacated his featherweight title and moved up to lightweight. Pimblett even recently said that he wants to fight Topuria and that “hand sanitizer boy” doesn’t deserve an immediate lightweight title shot.

However, they now appear to have buried the hatchet. Pimblett and Topuria came across each other yet again ahead of UFC London, which goes down at the O2 Arena on Saturday. Pimblett was there to support teammates Moll…

Julianna Pena Labels Carlos Ulberg ‘The Hottest Guy in the UFC’

[embedded content]

Julianna Pena thinks good looking people are treated better in general.

The UFC women’s bantamweight champ understands that the promotion is focused on running a business. And while she doesn’t necessarily expect the UFC to promote fighters based on good looks, she doesn’t expect them to downplay the charm, either.

Pena also believes good looks go a long way in terms of how one is perceived. And at the top of her list of good looking UFC fighters is Kiwi light heavyweight contender Carlos Ulberg. “The Venezuelan Vixen” also mentioned French middleweight contender Nassourdine Imavov and former Bellator star Michael “Venom” Page, although “MVP” mostly for his flashy style.

“At the end of the day, the UFC is running a business and everything goes down to business,” Pena said on the Overdogs podcast. “And since it sells, they're definitely going to, I don't want to say play up that s——iness, but they're not going to shy away fr…

George Foreman Sr., Legendary Heavyweight Boxing Champ, Dead at 76

It is a sad day for the boxing world, as George Foreman has died at the age of 76.

On Friday, Foreman’s family posted on social media of his death. The beloved boxer competed in the sport from 1967 to 1997, going 22-4 as an amateur while capturing an Olympic Gold Medal at heavyweight in the 1968 Summer Olympics. Turning professional in 1969, “Big George” built a mighty record of 37-0 with 34 knockouts to earn a shot at the WBA, WBC and The Ring titles held by Joe Frazier.

Success continued for Foreman, as he blasted Frazier within two rounds, and defended that throne twice with knockouts of Jose Roman and Ken Norton. This led to one of the most iconic matches in the history of the sweet science, “Rumble in the Jungle” against Muhammad Ali. The legendary Ali employed his rope-a-dope strategy to outguile Foreman en route to a stoppage in the eighth round, flooring “Big George” for the first time during the match. This match served as one of the most…

Norma Dumont Makes Case as Backup for Rumored Pena-Harrison Match at UFC 316

A lot has changed in a day for UFC bantamweight contender Norma Dumont.

On Thursday, Dumont (12-2) spoke to MMA Junkie, where she expressed her disappointment with the seeming lack of championship bouts in her weight class. With the expected title tilt between Julianna Pena and Kayla Harrison still only rumored for UFC 316, Dumont wanted to make sure she was part of the championship equation. Her last win came in a bloody battle against former title challenger Irene Aldana, which she believes is enough to have earned her a crack at gold.

While Dumont initially called for an interim championship matchup against Kayla Harrison, she felt that Pena was the one holding up the fight being official. After learning from Sherdog that the fight was still being considered for UFC 316 in Newark, New Jersey, on June 7, the Brazilian changed her tune.

“I just saw [Pena vs. Harrison] was confirmed for June 7 in UFC 316, which is pretty good news once that fight w…

Rose Namajunas, Miranda Maverick Booked for June 14 Collision in Atlanta

A new ranked UFC flyweight tilt will also serve as the announcement that the promotion is heading back to Atlanta.

On Thursday, Miranda Maverick (15-5) broke the news on Instagram that she will be throwing down with Rose Namajunas (13-7) on June 14. While the location has not yet been confirmed, the expected destination of this UFC Fight Night card will be at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. If this remains the case—the promotion is actively shifting card locations as of late—it will be the first non-pay-per-view show held in the capital city of Georgia. It is currently the only bout announced thus far for the event.

“Thug Rose” has had mixed results since moving up to the flyweight division. While she has picked up decisions over Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortez, a ceiling as developed as both Manon Fiorot and Erin Blanchfield turned her away. Nevertheless, Namajunas will always be a two-time UFC strawweight champion, first claiming it from Joanna Jedrzejczyk in 2017 an…

UFC Signee Danylo Voievodkin Suspended 2 Years for Meldonium

Count recent UFC heavyweight pickup Danylo Voievodkin among those who popped before getting to fight.

According the UFC and Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) on Thursday, Voievodkin tested positive for meldonium, a substance banned at all times. This test failure took place following his win on Dana White's Contender Series, where he throttled Bailey Schoenfelder in 73 seconds to claim a UFC contract. As a result, Voievodkin has been handed a two-year suspension from competition. Per MMA Fighting, he has since been released by the organization.

Due to the nature of the substance and that it was taken after his DWCS win, CSAD issued the full-length two-year ban. There is no therapeutic use to make it exempt, and the CSAD did not indicate that Voievodkin cooperated with the investigation to potentially reduce his sentence. Meldonium is used to treat heart conditions, but there is no indication that the Ukrainian suffers from any of them to need its use…

Battery Charges on Nate Diaz Dismissed by Las Vegas Court

Ex-UFC star Nate Diaz is no longer facing charges for an alleged incident in a Las Vegas nightclub in 2024.

Last year, Diaz was cited for battery—a misdemeanor that could have sent Diaz to prison for six months while hitting him with a nominal fine—after an alleged fracas at the Omnia nightclub in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. On Aug. 25, he and his friends were reportedly in line for something when security approached them, and Diaz was caught on camera shoving a guard and striking one in the face with an open hand. He then flexed several times and went on to leave the scene before police arrived.

Per ESPN on Thursday, charges against Diaz have been dropped as the case against him has been dismissed by the local Las Vegas court. According to Diaz’ attorney Ross Goodman, the video that spread showing Diaz striking the security guard was missing key details.

“The selected portion of the video that went viral omitted the prelude that Nate pushed back the security …

UFC Middleweight Brunno Ferreira Suggests Way to Stop ‘Dagestan Storm’

“The Hulk” has Dagestan fever, and his only prescription is a knee to the face.

The resurgent Brunno Ferreira, fresh off a submission victory over Armen Petrosyan at UFC 313, is keen on looking ahead in the tumultuous middleweight division. His victory was the second in two weeks inside of the Octagon, as teammate Brendson Ribeiro tapped Diyar Nurgozhay at UFC Fight Night 254 this past week. When speaking to Sherdog on Tuesday about his recent success, he attributes part of it to a special training camp set up by coach Andre “Dida” Amado that he was able to enjoy for a few weeks.

“Two weeks and two wins by submission for Brazilian TKO,” Ferreira celebrated. “Cris Cyborg mounted a kind of CT House for fight teams with all the structure, ring, octagon, pool, sauna…and Master Dida inaugurated it, renting it for us for two weeks. It couldn’t have been better, we were locked in that bubble with all the necessary infrastructure, and the results came.”

Merab Dvalishvili, Sean O’Malley Have Cordial Interaction at UFC PI

[embedded content]

There appears to be no lingering bad blood between bantamweight standouts Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O'Malley.

The two recently crossed paths at the UFC Performance Institute, where O’Malley praised the reigning champion’s performance in a successful title defense against Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 311 this past January.

“Your last fight was impressive, you looked good,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “That was a fun fight to watch. That was very fun.”

Prior to facing Nurmagomedov, Dvalishvili claimed bantamweight gold with a unanimous decision triumph over O’Malley at UFC 306 this past September. While nothing has been confirmed, UFC CEO Dana White recently hinted that a rematch between the two could be in the making.

“They want to fight each other,” White said following UFC Seattle. “I think people want to see it.”

Dvalishvili also seemed to indicate that a return date was likely during their conversation.

Charles Oliveira Believes ‘Fans Should Forget About Conor McGregor Coming Back’

Charles Oliveira is among the many Ultimate Fighting Championship athletes who has pursued a potentially lucrative fight with Conor McGregor over the years.

These days, however, “do Bronx” isn’t holding out much hope for the 36-year-old Irishman to return to the Octagon in any fashion. McGregor hasn’t fought since July 2021, and his scheduled return against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 last June was scrapped during fight week when “Notorious” pulled out of the event due to a broken toe. McGregor continues to make headlines outside of the cage — most recently for a meeting with President Donald Trump on St. Patrick’s Day — but there has been no word on a potential fight booking.

“To be honest, I don’t know why people are still talking about Conor McGregor. He’s done everything he wanted to do in the sport and now he chooses to live his life the way he’s living it,” Oliveira said in a recent interview with Oddspedia.

“We’ve been waiting for him…

Paul Craig, Rodolfo Bellato to Clash at UFC Vegas 106 on May 17

A light heavyweight matchup has been added to an Ultimate Fighting Championship card scheduled for May 17.

Veteran Paul Craig (17-9) will face Rodolfo Bellato (12-2) at UFC Vegas 106 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Bellato confirmed the pairing after an initial report from MagicM_MMABets on social media.

While Craig’s UFC career has seen its share of highs and lows, the Scot has been on a steady downward slope in recent times. Craig moved down to middleweight in 2023 after back-to-back losses at 205 pounds. However, that stint didn’t work out well, as “Bearjew” dropped three in a row against top-tier competition after a win against Andre Muniz in his middleweight debut.

Meanwhile, Bellato got his first shot on Dana White's Contender Series in 2022, when he suffered a knockout loss against Vitor Petrino. The Brazilian racked up two wins on the regional circuit for another Contender Series opportunity and earned a contract by finishing Murtaza Talha Ali. “Tr…

Dricus Du Plessis: ‘Aura Gone’ from Potential Fight vs. Alex Pereira

[embedded content]

Alex Pereira’s loss at UFC 313 seems to have limited his options in regards to fights at other weight classes.

Prior to facing Magomed Ankalaev on March 8 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, there were rumblings about “Poatan” moving up to heavyweight for a potential matchup with Jon Jones, or moving down to middleweight for a clash against Dricus Du Plessis.

After the Brazilian relinquished his crown to Ankalaev in a unanimous decision loss, UFC CEO Dana White quickly shut down the possibility of a superfight against Jones. Meanwhile, Du Plessis, the UFC’s reigning 185-pound champion, also seems to have lost interest in a showdown with the Brazilian.

“Thanks Ankalaev, for taking the biggest payday of my life,” Du Plessis said on Jackson O’Doherty’s video blog. “It’s nothing personal.”

The sentiments were quite different following Du Plessis’ victory over Israel Adesanya at UFC 305, when Pereira hinted at an eventual r…
