Francis Ngannou ‘Hurt’ by UFC President Dana White’s Ego Remarks

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRkYWTBAjCE&w=560&h=315]

Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White has a history of criticizing fighters he feels don’t perform, especially if they’re on high profile pay-per-views like at UFC 226, when a hugely-anticipated heavyweight clash between two of the biggest hitters in the division in Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis took place in the co-main event.

Ngannou, who was coming off a one-sided unanimous decision loss to former champion Stipe Miocic back in January, looked completely gun shy and unwilling to engage with Lewis. Color commentator Joe Rogan made the point during the fight that perhaps the manner of Ngannou’s loss to Miocic may have affected him psychologically going forward, considering his rise to fame.

White blasted Ngannou’s performance and said his ego had gotten the better of him. Although he did have some sympathy for Lewis, who also looked off his game once he discovered “The Black Beast…

Khabib Nurmagomedov: No Reason to Approach Conor McGregor at World Cup Final

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor were both in attendance at Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final at Luzhniki Stadium in Russia, but the two UFC stars never came face to face.

That might have been for the best, however, as the last time Nurmagomedov and McGregor were in close proximity of one another, the “Notorious” one hurled a dolly through a window of a bus carrying the Dagestani and other UFC fighters and employees. The incident resulted in injuries that forced both Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg to pull out of UFC 223 two days later.

McGregor’s attack was believed to be in retaliation for a confrontation between Nurmagomedov and SBG Ireland teammate Artem Lobov earlier that week. McGregor is due back in court on July 26.

According to Nurmagomedov, the UFC’s reigning lightweight champion, a confrontation in a crowded venue wouldn’t have settled any type of score between the two men.

“I thought I’d meet McGregor at the Luzhniki Stadium,” Nurmagomedov s…

Hand Injury Likely to Sideline UFC Champ Robert Whittaker Until February

Robert Whittaker’s next title defense likely won’t come until early next year.

The UFC middleweight champion told ESPN's Ariel Helwani that the hand injury suffered in his split-decision victory over Yoel Romero at UFC 225 will keep him out until February at the earliest. Whittaker broke his right hand in the opening round of the June 9 bout and also revealed that he suffered ligament damage in his left hand.

Whittaker recently underwent surgery and will need the rest of 2018 to recover.

"I haven't even started the rehab process yet," Whittaker said. "Just more letting it heal first before I can implement that. They put a plate and some screws in. Realistically I'm looking at February next year.”

Whittaker will coach opposite Kelvin Gastelum on “The Ultimate Fighter 28,” before defending his title against Gastelum at an as yet-to-be determined date. The 27-year-old has won nine consecutive fights and doesn’t expect his latest injury to hinder him down…

Stipe Miocic Calls Brock Lesnar’s Appearance at UFC 226 a ’S—tshow’ and ‘Disrespectful’

In the immediate aftermath of his loss to Daniel Cormier at UFC 226, Stipe Miocic was more concerned about getting home to Ohio to be with his pregnant wife than analyzing anything that had happened at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas that night.

After Cormier became a two-division champion with his first-round knockout of Miocic, ex-UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar entered the cage to confront “DC.” A shoving match ensued between the two men, setting the stage for a future bout. UFC President Dana White confirmed that Cormier vs. Lesnar was the fight to make.

After having some time to digest everything, the whole post-fight scene left a bitter taste in Miocic’s mouth.

"It was a s--- show and it was disrespectful," Miocic told ESPN.com. "I didn't think that was what the UFC was all about.”

"I thought they were going to interview me [after the fight] and I was going to ask for a rematch," he continued. "When Brock came in, I said, 'I'm out of here, I …

Sage Northcutt Feels ‘Too Drained’ at 155, Has ‘Way More Energy and Strength’ at Welterweight

Considering that both of his UFC losses had come at 170 pounds, it didn’t seem like the best idea for Sage Northcutt to return to welterweight in the Las Vegas-based promotion.

After all, Northcutt was on a five-bout winning streak at lightweight, including back-to-back triumphs over Thibault Gouti and Michel Quinones in his most recent two Octagon appearances. At UFC Fight Night 133 in Boise, however, “Super” Sage showed that he might have a home at welterweight after all, as he earned a second-round knockout of Zak Ottow in the evening’s co-main event.

“I felt great out there tonight. When I fight at 170, I have way more energy and strength,” Northcutt said. “At 155, I feel too drained because I walk around so lean. I know Zak Ottow is a tough guy. He knocked out Mike Pyle in his last fight. He was definitely bigger than me in the Octagon tonight. But I was able to tire him out because of how much energy and strength I had.”

After nearly getting knocked o…

KSW veteran David Zawada will step in on short notice to face Danny Roberts at UFC Fight Night 134 in Hamburg, Germany next weekend.

The promotion announced the new matchup during the UFC Fight Night Boise broadcast. Zawada replaces Alan Jouban, who withdrew from the welterweight bout due to an injured neck. Cris ‘Cyborg’ Warns That Amanda Nunes Fight Could Be Her Last UFC Appearance

Last week, news broke that the Ultimate Fighting Championship was targeting Dec. 29 for a superfight between featherweight queen Cristiane Justino and bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes.

However, the date was not ideal for “Cyborg,” who would have preferred to face Nunes at UFC 228, which is scheduled for Sept. 8 in Dallas. Justino last defended her title with a first-round stoppage of Yana Kunitskaya at UFC 222 in March, while Nunes retained the 135-pound strap with a fifth-round TKO of Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 in May.

“Friday, last week, I talked to the UFC, and I said I wanted to fight, that I’m ready to fight,” Cyborg said on the Brazilian show Combate News. “I’ve been training, ready, and I want to fight. They offered me Sept. 8, in Dallas, to fight Amanda. I said that’s fine. I’ll fight. I’ve been training. I’m ready. A champion has to be ready all the time.

“Then on Monday they said [she] didn’t accept Sept. 8. Then I said I wanted to fight anyway. …

UFC Fight Night 133 Bonuses: Niko Price Pockets $50K for Rarely-Seen Finish

Niko Price is one bad dude! pic.twitter.com/Q9b7YIR8Vw

— FOX Sports: UFC (@UFCONFOX) July 15, 2018

There were a few impressive performances at UFC Fight Night 133 in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday night, but Niko Price’s victorious effort is the one most likely to stick in the memory banks.

Price garnered a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his unique finish of Randy Brown in a main card welterweight tilt. As Brown was landing ground-and-pound early in the second round, Price attempted to roll for a kneebar. As a result, Brown’s chin came to rest in Price’s foot, allowing “The Hybrid” to pound his foe unconscious with five hammerfists from his back at the 1:09 mark.

Elsewhere, Chad Mendes made a triumphant return following a lengthy hiatus to capture the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus. After a slow start, the former featherweight title challenger floored opponent Myles Jury with a powerful left hook. Fro…

UFC Fight Night 133 Prelims: Alejandro Perez Edges Eddie Wineland

Eddie Wineland thought he did enough to eke out a decision over Alejandro Perez in the UFC Fight Night 133 preliminary card headliner, but he was mistaken.

Though Wineland appeared to have more consistent offensive output throughout their entertaining three-round affair, none of the three cageside judges saw the bout that way. “Turbo” was awarded an unpopular unanimous decision over the former World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight champion, with all three officials seeing it 29-28 for Perez.

Volkanovski Busts Up Elkins Aussie contender Alexander Volkanovski was a bit too much for Darren Elkins to handle as “The Great” edged his foe over three grueling rounds.

Elkins, one of the toughest fighters on the planet, was dropped on three separate occasions in the opening round and was out on his feet twice. Volkanovski tried closing the show with guillotines every time he floored the Indiana fighter, but Elkins slipped out of all them. Elkins suffered cuts all over his face …

The lightweight has since gone 3-1 with one no contest while competing for KSW and ACB. Parke is 24-6-1 since beginning his professional career in 2006.

Julia Budd Dominates, Stops Talita Nogueira to Retain Title in Bellator 202 Headliner

Julia Budd is at the top of her game, there’s no question about it.

The Bellator MMA women’s featherweight champion proved to be too much for Brazilian challenger Talita Nogueira as the “The Jewel” dominated her from start to finish. Budd was relentless with timely striking and smashing ground-and-pound en route to a third-round stoppage to retain to her title in the main event of Bellator 202 at Winstar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma.

Budd nearly folded the previously unbeaten Nogueira in half with a devastating knee to the body in the second frame, but “Treta” survived the onslaught by fending off the ensuing barrage of punches. Budd made sure her foe didn’t make it out of the third, though, as the Canadian took her time by picking off Nogueira on the feet before drilling her with a missile of a right hand to the jaw. Nogueira collapsed against the cage and from there, she succumbed to follow-up punches until referee Jason Herzog pulled her …

Neck injury forces Alan Jouban out of UFC Hamburg fight against Danny Roberts

Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight Alan Jouban announced he won’t be facing Danny Roberts in Germany next weekend. The four-time UFC “Fight of the Night” winner took to Instagram on Thursday to reveal a nagging neck injury that may require surgery to correct.

Jouban (16-6) and Roberts were set to fight on the Fox Sports 1-televised main card of UFC Fight Night 134 on July 22, but a bulging disc in Jouban’s neck forced the 36-year-old off of the card, as first reported by MMA Today.

The Louisiana native is coming off of a blistering second-round knockout victory over Ben Saunders in February, while Roberts bounced back from a quick loss to Nordine Taleb with a first-round knockout of Oliver Enkamp in March.

According to Jouban, an MRI is next to determine the severity of the disc injury, while the UFC works to replace him in time for UFC Fight Night 134 in Hamburg. The event will be headlined by a light heavyweight clash between former divisional champi…

Report: UFC Sends Bout Agreements to ‘Cyborg,’ Amanda Nunes for Dec. 29 Fight

The wheels are apparently in motion for a UFC superfight between featherweight queen Cristiane Justino and bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes. Now it’s just a matter of getting both sides to agree on a date for their bout.

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, the promotion has sent bout agreements to both “Cyborg” and Nunes for a proposed 145-pound title bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Dec. 29. Nunes seemed to confirm that report by posting a picture on Twitter of her signing a bout agreement for UFC 232.

Junior dos Santos: Miocic Gave Cormier Chance to Win by Accepting Close Distance Fight

After two dances in the Octagon with the ex-heavyweight champ, Junior dos Santos is pretty familiar with the skills Stipe Miocic brings to the table.

“Cigano” won a hard-fought five-round verdict over Miocic in the UFC on Fox 13 headliner in December 2014, but was stopped by the Ohio-based firefighter in the opening stanza in a title bout at UFC 211.

Miocic had the most successful reign of any heavyweight champion in UFC history, but it came to an end at the hands of Daniel Cormier this past Saturday in Las Vegas at UFC 226. The reigning light heavyweight champion initiated the clinch with Miocic and then floored his opponent with a right hook on the break. A flurry of hammerfists on the ground clinched the victory for “DC.”

According to dos Santos, the biggest mistake Miocic made was repeatedly wandering into Cormier’s comfort zone.

“That was a big surprise for me, you know. I thought Daniel Cormier could win that fight, but not the way he won — knoc…

Former UFC Welterweight Nicolas Dalby to Return to Action at Cage Warriors 96

Nicolas Dalby will look to turn around a three-fight skid on familiar soil. (Photo Credit: Ryan O'Leary)

Former Cage Warriors welterweight champion Nicolas Dalby will be back in action, back in the country where he won the title.

The 33 year-old “Lokomotivo” was announced as part of the Cage Warriors 96 card on Sept. 1 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. Dalby’s last appearance was an incredible three-round war with Carlo Pedersoli at Cage Warriors 96 in April, which the victorious Pedersoli used as a springboard to a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Dalby, meanwhile, steps back into the cage looking to overturn a three-bout skid that includes the Pedersoli fight as well as two consecutive losses to end his own four-fight UFC run.

Nine more names were announced for the incoming card by the British promotion on Wednesday morning: Sam Creasey, Jack Grant, Shawn Kenny, Elliot Jenkins, Coner Hignett, Adam Ventre, Mick Stanton, Liam Gittins and A…

Matt Sayles vs. Sheymon Moraes Added to UFC 227 Lineup in Los Angeles

Matt Sayles, one of the most recent contract winners from Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, will make his Octagon debut against Sheymon Moraes at UFC 227.

The promotion announced the featherweight pairing on Tuesday evening. UFC 227 takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Aug. 4 and is headlined by a bantamweight championship rematch between T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt. Sayles vs. Moraes will headline the UFC Fight Pass portion of the preliminary card.

Sayles punched his ticket to the UFC with a first-round technical knockout of Yazan Hajeh on Episode 2 of the Contender Series on June 19. The 24-year-old Alliance MMA product owns a 7-1 career mark that includes six triumphs via knockout or technical knockout.

A four-time veteran of World Series of Fighting, Moraes debuted in the Octagon at UFC Fight Night 122, where he suffered a third-round submission defeat against Zabit Magomedsharipov on Nov. 25. The 27-year-old Brazilian is…

UFC Grants Bevon Lewis, Jordan Espinosa Contracts on Dana White’s Contender Series

All went according to plan for Bevon Lewis.

The Jackson-Wink MMA prospect kept his perfect professional record intact, as he cut down Alton Cunningham with a volley of close-quarters knee strikes in the first round of their middleweight confrontation on Season 2, Episode 4 of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series at the UFC Training Center in Las Vegas. Cunningham (3-1) bit the dust 3:01 into Round 1.

Lewis (6-0) established himself as the superior fighter as the start and did not relent. He lured Cunningham into the clinch and picked him apart with knees, elbows and punches at close range. Lewis dropped the 25-year-old at the base of the cage, moved to the top ride and hunted a rear-naked choke. He then reset, sucked Cunningham back into the clinch and uncorked knees to the head until referee Mark Smith had seen enough.

Afterward, Lewis was awarded a UFC contract. He was not alone.

After Receiving UFC Developmental Deal, Greg Hardy Booked for Second Contender Series Bout

Greg Hardy’s mixed martial arts career will continue with another appearance at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.

Multiple outlets have confirmed that the troubled former NFL Pro Bowler will square off with Tebaris Gordon on Aug. 7 at “The Ultimate Fighter Gym” in Las Vegas. ESPN.com was first to report the news.

Hardy earned a four-fight developmental contract with the UFC after knocking out fellow former NFL player Austen Lane in 57 seconds in his professional MMA debut on June 12. Hardy went 3-0 as an amateur before his victory on the Contender Series.

Gordon, based out of North Carolina, owns a 3-0 professional record, with all of his victories coming by way of technical knockout. One of those victories occurred under the Legacy Fighting Alliance banner, where he stopped Chandler Cole 4:25 into round one in July 2017.

The UFC has received criticism for bringing Hardy into the fold due to his past domestic violence issues. In July 2014 H…

UFC 226 Medical Suspensions: Cormier, Felder, Costa Facing Potential 6-Month Layoffs

New heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is one of three fighters from UFC 226 who could be looking at a lengthy time on the shelf due to injury.

The Nevada Athletic Commission released a list of medical suspensions from this past Saturday’s event, which took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and saw Cormier dispatch Stipe Miocic via first-round knockout in the evening’s headliner. Cormier needs to have his right hand x-rayed and cleared by an orthopedic doctor or he will be suspended until Jan. 4. At a minimum, “DC” is suspended until Aug. 7 with no contact until July 29.

Meanwhile, Paul Felder must have his broken right ulnar, or forearm, cleared by an orthopedic doctor or he will be out until Jan. 4 as well. Felder lost a split decision to Mike Perry in a featured welterweight contest.

Finally, rising Brazilian star Paulo Henrique Costa must have his left ankle and foot x-rayed and cleared by an orthopedic doctor, or he will be sidelined until Jan.…
