Demetrious Johnson Claims He Accepted Fight vs. T.J. Dillashaw Before Shoulder Surgery

UFC 227 is now available on Amazon Prime.

Demetrious Johnson apparently accepted a champion vs. champion superfight against T.J. Dillashaw earlier this year before an injury derailed those plans.

“Mighty Mouse,” the reigning UFC flyweight champion, revealed during a recent conference call that he didn’t get offered the fight against Dillashaw, the bantamweight king, after he recovered from shoulder surgery.

“I accepted the fight, I got injured, I had surgery, and they never offered it to me after I got injured,” Johnson said. “When they offered it to me I accepted, I got injured and got surgery, and then when it came time to fight again, from my understanding, from my management’s point of view, T.J. got offered to fight Cody [Garbrandt] with a brand new deal, so God bless him for getting a new deal to fight Cody.

“So the entire lead-up to this fight, even in July, I was never offered to fight T.J. Dillashaw. Before I got injured I was up for fighting…

When Conor McGregor makes his highly-anticipated Ultimate Fighting Championship return, it will likely be in Las Vegas.

“We’ll see what happens,” McGregor said as he was jogging on the streets of New York. “I’d love to fight in the Garden again. But I believe this one is Las Vegas.”’

UFC Champ Max Holloway Disputes Stroke Rumors, Still Seeking Answers Regarding Health

Max Holloway doesn’t have a definitive answer as to why his health deteriorated just prior to his scheduled title defense at UFC 226, but he knows that he definitely did not suffer a stroke.

“When we were in the ER with doctors the word ‘stroke’ never came up,” Holloway said during an appearance on "Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show" on Monday. “I was in disbelief when people were trying to use that. My entire team wasn’t in the ER, so when we heard the rumors come out I thought it was just clickbait. If it was a stroke or heart problem or whatever people were gossiping about, how in their right mind would the doctors discharge me from the hospital? I was never scared I was never going to fight again. It never crossed my mind I might not fight again.”

Holloway was pulled from his bout vs. Brian Ortega just a few days prior to UFC 226 due to concussion-like symptoms. However, the 26-year-old Hawaiian dispelled another rumor that he was knocked out in sparring during his ca…

Jon Jones Posts Lengthy Reflection on 1-Year Anniversary of UFC 214 Bout vs. Daniel Cormier

One year ago, it looked like Jon Jones was back.

The Jackson-Wink MMA product reclaimed his light heavyweight throne with authority at UFC 214, as he rocked Daniel Cormier with a head kick before finishing his rival with ground-and-pound 3:01 into the third round of the evening’s main event in Anaheim, Calif.

After a couple lengthy stints on the sideline due to numerous issues, it appeared that Jones had scored something of a redemptive victory. Only, it wasn’t. Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that Jones tested positive for the anabolic steroid Turinabol at the event. As a result, he was suspended and stripped of the belt he had only just regained. The victory, of course, was changed to a no contest by the California State Athletic Commission.

Jones remains in limbo as he awaits a USADA ruling an his doping case. After having previously failed a drug test in relation to UFC 200, he could face up to a four-year sanction if USADA isn’t lenient. Even if he…

Kyoji Horiguchi Extends Win Streak to 10, UFC Vets Gomi, Brandao Score KOs at Rizin 11

Fighting for his fallen karate master, Kyoji Horiguchi turns back a heroic effort from Hiromasa Ogikubo! Weathering an early knockdown and takedowns from the two-division Shooto champ, Horiguchi (25-2) stormed back and dominated to boost his win streak to 10. #RIZIN11 #RIZINFF pic.twitter.com/AumCCjqvlh

— Kyle Johnson (@Maldobabo) July 29, 2018

Kyoji Horiguchi continues to cement himself as one of the top lighter weight fighters in the world, regardless of organization.

The former UFC title challenger weathered an early storm to win a decision in a rematch with Hiromasa Ogikubo at Rizin Fighting Federation 11 on Saturday at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama Japan. Ogikubo, a two-division Shooto champ, floored his opponent early, but could not capitalize on the fast start, as Horiguchi gradually took control. While the Japanese star was unable to get a finish, he did batter his foe with punches to the face and soccer kicks to the body, leaving O…

UFC on Fox 30 Bonuses: Poirier, Aldo, Makdessi, Pearson Receive $50K Checks

Dustin Poirier, Jose Aldo, John Makdessi and Ross Pearson all earned $50,000 bonus checks for their work at UFC on Fox 30.

Dustin Poirier pocketed a “Performance of the Night” award for a thrilling stoppage of Eddie Alvarez in Saturday’s headliner at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. After an illegal Alvarez elbow prompted a standup, Poirier emerged victorious during a wild second-round sequence, as he earned the technical knockout with a multi-faceted assault at the 4:05 mark of the period.

Meanwhile, Aldo rebounded from a two-fight skid to capture the evening’s other “Performance of the Night” award for an emphatic stoppage of Jeremy Stephens in the featherweight co-main event. The Nova Uniao product folded his opponent with a brutal body shot before sealing the victory with ground-and-pound 4:19 into round one.

Finally, Makdessi and Pearson garnered “Fight of the Night” honors for their three-round preliminary lightweight scrap. The …

Dustin Poirier Stops Eddie Alvarez in UFC on Fox 30 Headliner

Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez fought over a year ago, but their duel ended in a lousy “No Contest.” The two vowed redemption and a thrilling fight; both predicted a knockout. They were both right and the fight more than lived up to expectations as they waged one of the best wars of 2018 thus far.

However, Alvarez couldn’t withstand the Louisiana native’s crushing power as Poirier ended things in spectacular fashion in the second round at UFC on Fox 30.

The two lightweights stood toe-to-toe and traded submission attempts on the ground, but when the combatants were restarted in the center of the ring when referee Marc Goddard scolded Alvarez for an illegal elbow, everything changed. “The Diamond” ruined his foe’s equilibrium with a knee to the head and chased Alvarez into the cage. From there, he unloaded everything in his arsenal: punches, knees, kicks, elbows.

Alvarez threw haymakers out of desperation but missed, only to finally crumble under a barrage of punc…

James Nakashima Dominates Kyle Stewart to Retain Title in LFA 46 Main Event

This may have been the craziest 31 seconds to go down on @AXSTV #LFA46#100YearsOfEustis@LFAfighting @JBLEnews pic.twitter.com/DcaLU4h63A

— AXS TV Fights (@AXSTVFights) July 28, 2018

James Nakashima proved once again that high-caliber wrestlers are often the most difficult opponents.

“Nako” used his Division I wrestling prowess to dismantle and dominate fellow unbeaten challenger Kyle Stewart in the LFA 46 main event on Friday, retaining his Legacy Fighting Alliance welterweight title in the process. Nakashima took down the Arizona Combat Sports fighter with relative ease in all five of the allotted rounds and nullified virtually all of the Marine’s offense. “Gunz Up” never managed to get anything going in the fight, other than a few scattered bursts of punches while on the feet and a wild, desperate explosion of elbows and upkicks from his back in the fifth round.

UFC on Fox 30 Weigh-in Results & Video: Eddie Alvarez, Dustin Poirier Cleared for Rematch

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdV50jQX5ik&w=560&h=315]

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Calgary on Saturday with a much better offering the second time around. The promotion’s first card in the Canadian city was UFC 149, which is largely considered one of the worst events in mixed martial arts history.

Perhaps in an effort to assuage disgruntled fans in Calgary, the UFC stacked the deck this time, with three former champions looking for a path back to their respective titles and exciting prospects looking to build on some serious momentum.

Former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez (155) will run it back against Dustin Poirier (156) in a rematch of their UFC 211 no-contest, while former featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo (146) looks to get back to his winning ways against surging a Jeremy Stephens (144).

As if that wasn’t enough, recently deposed strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk (115) will attempt to work her way back up the rankings…

Khabib Nurmagomedov Calls for Conor McGregor Fight Following Plea Deal

News of Conor McGregor’s plea deal on Thursday makes him eligible to fight again, and also without travel restrictions. That news was not lost on McGregor’s lightweight rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who promptly called for a title fight against the former divisional champion.

The two have a storied history together, with McGregor’s April arrest stemming from an assault allegedly intended for Nurmagomedov himself after the undefeated Dagestani’s altercation with McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov days earlier.

With McGregor no longer facing jail time or felony charges, Nurmagomedov was quick to issue an official challenge:

"Glad that he stayed out of jail, because I wouldn’t be able to punish him in that case,” Nurmagomedov told MMA Junkie on Thursday. “Now he needs to bring his Irish team to MSG in November and finish our business."

Both “The Eagle” and “The Notorious” won their lightweight belts in New York City, with McGregor taking the title from Ed…

Jose Aldo Looking to End Career on a High Note Once UFC Contract Concludes

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4iyMLk6ipM&w=560&h=315]

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight champion Jose Aldo will compete in his first non-title fight this Saturday since joining the promotion back in 2011, as he takes on Jeremy Stephens in a three-round tilt at UFC on Fox 30.

Although Aldo is just 31 years-old, the former world champion has already settled on retiring once his current UFC contract runs its course. The 14-year professional mixed martial arts veteran began his career back in 2004 and currently has just three fights left on his UFC contract, and the Brazilian is looking to end his career on a high note:

“No, I don’t think so,” Aldo said during a scrum session Wednesday of signing another UFC contract. “It doesn’t cross my mind to sign a new contract after.”

“I think it’s easier because you know it’s coming near the end, so you have to give your all because you don’t want to go out on a loss, you want to go out on t…

Conor McGregor Accepts Plea Deal for Disorderly Conduct

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnK2EVkuOi8&w=560&h=315]

Ultimate Fighting Championship superstar Conor McGregor’s legal problems are now behind him, as the Irishman plead guilty to a single count of disorderly conduct on Thursday morning.

The 30-year-old’s legal team was able to negotiate a plea deal with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office that involves no jail time and no criminal record. McGregor’s travel visa, which the former two-time world champion relies on to fight on various events across the globe, will not be affected under the plea deal, either.

"I just want to say I'm thankful to the D.A. and the judge for allowing me to move forward," McGregor told reporters outside the courthouse on Thursday. "I want to say to my friends, my family, my fans -- thank you for your support."

The disorderly conduct violation is a far cry from the initial charges set forth by the court following McGregor’s infamous bus attack in the days leading into…

UFC Two-Division Champ Daniel Cormier Stresses How Much Brock Lesnar Will Be Tested Ahead of Their Fight

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K594Fe3otk8?start=1453&w=560&h=315]

Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier plans to retire by March 2019 and has already pencilled in his final fights which are title defenses against Corey Anderson at 205 pounds and then World Wrestling Entertainment superstar and former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar at heavyweight.

On Tuesday, Cormier accepted the invitation of Anderson, who reached out to him on Twitter about a potential title shot before the champ retires. That fight will potentially happen first due to the fact that Lesnar only entered the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) testing pool in early July and is required to be in it for six months before he can compete.

Ok , sure just find out when and where. I’ll be there. I always am!

Jeremy Stephens Believes Win Over Jose Aldo Puts Him in ‘Undeniable Situation’ for Title Shot

Some matchups just jump off the page as soon as they’re announced. Jeremy Stephens vs. Jose Aldo certainly fits that bill, but the featherweight co-headliner at UFC on Fox 30 is far more than just a “Fight of the Night” candidate.

Before he ran into Conor McGregor at UFC 194, Aldo was universally recognized as the greatest featherweight of all time. The long-reigning 145-pound king rebounded from the shocking 13-second knockout loss against the Irishman to claim the interim crown with a five-round verdict over Frankie Edgar at UFC 200. Aldo’s hold on the division proved brief, as he has since lost back-to-back fights in decisive fashion to current featherweight champion Max Holloway.

While Aldo has suffered more defeats in the last three years than he did in the first 10 years of his pro career, Stephens is expecting a difficult fight on Saturday in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

“I’m prepared for the best Jose to show up….firing all leg kicks, firing on all cyl…

UFC Fight Night Hamburg Draws 492,000 Viewers to FS1 for Sunday Card

The UFC Fight Night 134 main card averaged 492,000 viewers on Fox Sports 1 on Sunday, according to figures released by ShowBuzz Daily.

That ranks as the lowest figure for a Fight Night card on FS1 this year, but the ratings are comparable to other UFC events recently held on Sunday. For example: Last year’s UFC Fight Night 113, which took place on Sunday, July 16 and was headlined by a welterweight clash between Santiago Ponzinibbio and Gunnar Nelson, attracted an audience of 402,000 to FS1.

UFC Fight Night 134 took place at Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg Germany. In the evening’s main event, Anthony Smith knocked out Mauricio Rua in 89 seconds, while Corey Anderson earned a decision victory over Glover Teixeira in the co-feature. Both bouts featured replacement opponents, as Rua was originally scheduled to face Volkan Oezdemir and Teixeira was initially paired with Ilir Latifi.

Meanwhile, the UFC Fight Night 134 prelims averaged 271,000 viewers on FS1. That …

Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight Jake Matthews is doing his best on Twiiter to get the attention of another welterweight, Sage Northcutt.

The 23 year-old Australian initially reached out to Northcutt on Twitter on July 19 with a cheeky photoshopped image of the pair standing side by side above a “The Ultimate Fighter – Young Guns!” banner.

Northcutt didn’t reply, so Matthews tried his hand again, asking “Super Sage” not to ignore him.

Alex Munoz Spoils Nick Newell’s UFC Bid on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series

Alex Munoz (5-0) spoils the coming-out party of Nick Newell, as the former Oklahoma State wrestler imposes grappling dominance over the amputee. Landing hard single shots, repeated takedowns and thudding ground n'pound, the Alpha Male rep captures a unanimous decision. #DWTNCS pic.twitter.com/G2WkOXPke0

Nick Newell had designs on an Ultimate Fighting Championship contract. Alex Munoz had other plans.

In his first appearance since Nov. 19, 2016, Team Alpha Male’s Munoz bloodied Newell’s nose with jabs, kept him off-balance with takedowns and took a three-round unanimous decision in their featured lightweight pairing on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series in Las Vegas. All three cageside judges scored it the same: 30-27 for Munoz (5-0).

Outside of an attempted guillotine choke in the third round and a few front kicks to the face, Newell (14-2) struggled to string together meaningful off…
