On Friday, MMA Junkie reported that Youssef Zalal (10-4) would be facing Sean Woodson (7-1) at the UFC Fight Night card on June 5. The event does not officially have a location set, although it is anticipated to be held in either the UFC Apex in Las Vegas or on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Zalal confirmed the matchup on his social media. There is no headliner set for this event, but an expected main card tilt comes at heavyweight between Marcin Tybura and Walt Harris.

The currently unnamed Ultimate Fighting Championship pay-per-view in May has just made some major additions.

Three bouts were added the last few days to UFC 262, which will take place on May 15 presumably at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The event does not have a headliner, but it has a few significant matches to bolster it including a lightweight clash between Tony Ferguson (25-5) and Beneil Dariush (20-4-1), as reported by MMA Junkie on Friday. Veteran MMA Referee Neil Hall Passes Away After Battling COVID-19 Complications

The mixed martial arts world lost one of its most-regarded referees from Europe.

On Wednesday, the news of referee Neil Hall’s death hit home. Hall, 55, passed away after battling with COVID-19. Hall’s family announced the sad news, revealing that he caught the virus after being hospitalized to treat a silent infection developed after a back operation.

“Sadly, Neil Hall passed away today,” they wrote. “He had a back operation in August and picked up an infection in the surgery area which wasn’t found till late January. He went into hospital for intravenous antibiotics for a week then came home, unfortunately it was with COVID. He spent three weeks trying to fight Covid pneumonia but sadly he lost his fight today. Over the years, Neil has met many people from all over the world and has had lots of fantastic experiences. Today we have to say goodbye to him.”

Ben Rothwell-Philipe Lins Heavyweight Bout Postponed, Pulled from UFC Fight Night 187

UFC Fight Night 187 is down another bout, as a heavyweight tilt between Ben Rothwell and Philipe Lins has been pulled from Saturday’s card.

Fightful was first to report the news. According to MMAFighting.com, an undisclosed injury resulted in the removal of the bout from the UFC Fight Night 187 lineup, but it is expected to be rebooked for a future event.

UFC Fight Night 187 takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and is headlined by a welterweight clash between Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad. The card will stream in its entirety on ESPN+.

The 39-year-old Rothwell had a two-bout winning streak snapped in his most recently outing, when he dropped a unanimous decision against Marcin Tybura at UFC Fight Night 179 this past October.

Daniel Weichel vs. Pedro Carvalho Targeted for Bellator 257 on April 16

A featherweight pairing pitting Daniel Weichel against Pedro Carvalho has been targeted for Bellator 257.

Sherdog.com confirmed with a source close to the situation that the matchup is in the works following an initial report from MMAFighting.com. Both Weichel and Carvalho have agreed to the bout, but contracts have not been signed.

A featherweight clash pitting Ricardo Ramos against Zubaira Tukhugov will not take place at UFC Fight Night 187 as originally planned.

Holly Holm Reveals Kidney Condition Forced Exit from Julianna Pena Bout

Holly Holm has confirmed her withdrawal from proposed May 8 bout against Julianna Pena.

In a video on Instagram, the former bantamweight queen revealed that she was diagnosed with a kidney condition called hydronephrosis. According to kidney.org, “hydronephrosis is the swelling of a kidney due to a build-up of urine. It happens when urine cannot drain out from the kidney to the bladder from a blockage or obstruction. Hydronephrosis can occur in one or both kidneys.”

Holm said that she expects to make a relatively quick recovery and hopes to have the Pena fight rebooked by the summer.

“Last Wednesday I had super abdominal pains, and I went to urgent care. It’s been something kind of reoccurring but hasn’t driven me to urgent care until last Wednesday,” Holm said. “Lo and behold I have hydronephrosis, which is where the kidney does not drain to the bladder correctly.

UFC 259 Medical Suspensions: Israel Adesanya Faces Potential 6-Month Layoff

Jan Blachowicz may want a minimum six-month rest following his light heavyweight title defense at UFC 259, but opponent Israel Adesanya could potentially join him in being sidelined that long for different reasons.

The pay-per-view boxing match between Ben Askren and Jake Paul officially has a location and a price point.

Triller Fight Club announced Monday that the April 17 bout will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the home of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Askren vs. Paul will cost $49.99 on pay-per-view and will be available via iNDemand in North American, while Fite TV will handle distribution internationally. International price points may vary. The four-hour card begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, while the pay-per-view kicks off at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
