— BRAVE Combat Federation (@bravemmaf) December 18, 2021 Brave Combat Federation’s final event of 2021 went down on Saturday night in Belgrade, Serbia.

Brave CF 56 was headlined by a lightweight clash between Ultimate Fighting Championship alum Rolando Dy and promotional newcomer Slobodan Maksimovic. Both fighters began Round 1 by attacking with a variety of calf kicks and head kicks. When Maksimovic attempted to move the action to the canvas, Dy (14-11-1, 1NC; 3-3, 1NC Brave) denied it. In the second frame, Maksimovic successfully landed his shots before his Filipino opponent landed a well-executed double-leg takedown. The Serbian returned to his feet quickly and went for a takedown of his own, which was quickly reversed by Dy.

The fighters spent half of Round 3 fighting against the fen…

Raoni Barcelos vs. Victor Henry Pulled from UFC Fight Night 199

A positive COVID-19 test for Victor Henry has resulted in the cancellation of his proposed bantamweight clash against Raoni Barcelos just hours before UFC Fight Night 199 was set to begin.

MMAjunkie.com first reported the news of the scrapped matchup. It’s currently unclear if Barcelos vs. Henry will be rebooked at a future event. Henry was a replacement opponent for Trevin Jones. UFC Fight Night 199 will proceed with 13 bouts, topped by a heavyweight duel between Derrick Lewis and Chris Daukaus.

Henry has won nine of his last 10 professional bouts. The 34-year-old Los Angeles native last appeared at LXF 6 on Oct. 30, when he submitted six-time UFC vet Albert Morales in the second round. Henry has competed for organizations such as Rizin, Deep, Pancrase and Russian Cagefighting Championship while compiling a 21-5 professional mark.

Barcelos, meanwhile, had a nine-bout winning streak snapped in his last outing, a majority decision loss to Timur Valiev at UFC Fi…

In a historic moment, Justin Tafa became the first UFC heavyweight to miss weight as he came in at 267 pounds. Additionally, Sijara Eubanks (127.5) and Macy Chiasson (148.5) weighed in heavy for their respective bouts. All three fighters have been fined percentages of their purses. Kairat Akhmetov Outpoints Danny Kingad in One ‘Winter Warriors 2’ Headliner

One Championship ended its year with a pre-recorded event that saw many Team Lakay standouts take on fighters from all over the world.

In the “Winter Warriors 2” main event, Kairat Akhmetov upended Danny Kingad (14-3, 10-3 One) after three rounds of combat. One-time flyweight titleholder Akhmetov (25-2, 6-2 One) made the most out of the very first kick thrown by Kingad, taking Kingad down immediately. From there, “The Kazakh” kept heavy pressure while landing shots and control time for practically the entire round. The Team Lakay representative may not have gotten up in the first round, but he managed to get off some offense in Round 2 as he staved off relentless takedown efforts from Akhmetov. Eventually, Akhmedov did get “The King” down on his back, where he again reigned in top position until the round concluded.

The all-grappling attack of Akhmetov appeared to fatigue him going into the third frame, and Kingad took advantage of this by landing at will on the feet. T…

One-Time UFC Strawweight Title Challenger Claudia Gadelha Announces Retirement

The victor of the very first Ultimate Fighting Championship strawweight fight is hanging up her gloves.

The automated UFC roster tracker on Twitter named UFC Roster Watch noted on Friday that Claudia Gadelha had been removed from the UFC roster. Those announcements do not necessarily mean that the fighter has been let go, but rather that they are ineligible for rankings or are otherwise pulled due to inactivity. In this case, as later announced by MMA Fighting, Gadelha had indeed informed the UFC that she would be retiring from competition. She has since confirmed this news on her Instagram stories, thanking people for their support.

The 33-year-old from Mossoro, Brazil, last competed in November 2020, when she took on Xiaonan Yan and lost a unanimous verdict. The setback ended a two-fight win streak where she beat Randa Markos and Angela Hill at the hands of the judges. Throughout her UFC tenure, she has defeated the likes of Carla Esparza, Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Cor…

— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) December 17, 2021 YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul will continue his combat sports career on Saturday as he once again faces Tyron Woodley.

Both main eventers made weight as Paul (4-0, 3 KO) stepped on the scale at 191.4 pounds and Woodley (0-1) came in at 189.6 pounds for the rematch. Woodley wasn't initially expected to fight this weekend as he is a late replacement for Tommy Fury, who was set to be the first established boxer to face Paul before Fury pulled out due to a broken rib. Despite the late notice, Woodley looked in good shape, and weighed nearly identical to the first fight (189.5 pounds). Paul was victorious in their first meeting as he took a split decision with scores of 77-75, 75-77 and 78-74.

Jon Jones Accepts Plea Deal for Las Vegas Incident, Domestic Violence Charge Dismissed

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship champ Jon Jones has received little more than a slap on the wrist for his latest legal entanglement from September.

First reported by TMZ on Thursday, Jones has accepted a plea deal with the prosecutors that will allow him to avoid any jail time. The oft-maligned light heavyweight has pleaded nolo contendere – no contest, which means that the defendant will not contest the charge but will not be admitting guilt – to the charge of a misdemeanor destruction of property damaging something valued between $25 and $250.

As a result, the prosecutors have dismissed the charge of domestic violence against him. Jones will be required to pay $750 in restitution to the victim, seek counseling for anger management, and “has been ordered to stay out of trouble.” Initially, the charge of tampering with a vehicle rose to the level of a felony as the damaged was assessed above $5,000, as Jones allegedly headbutted a police car according to the co…

UFC Denies Reports That Athletes Must Cover Costs for Pre-Fight COVID-19 Testing

UFC issued this memo moments ago regarding the then-new policy of fighters having to pay for COVID tests out of pocket: pic.twitter.com/7yGiflTj1E

— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) December 15, 2021

While the UFC has updated its COVID-19 protocol, the promotion won’t be requiring its athletes to cover the cost of pre-fight testing as was recently reported.

In a memo sent out to fighters, UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell revealed that the organization will no longer provide at-home testing kits as they did earlier in the pandemic. Instead, athletes will have the freedom to handle their own testing with the promotion reimbursing them for the expense. To be reimbursed, a copy of the receipt and a test result must be submitted to the UFC medical coordinator.

“Please be advised that we are updating UFC’s COVID-19 testing program to give all athletes and corners the freedom and flexibility to secure their own COVID-19 test prior to depar…

Raoni Barcelos Considers It a ‘Blessing’ Victor Henry Accepted UFC Fight Night 199 Matchup

Considered one of the top prospects in the bantamweight division, Raoni Barcelos had a five-bout UFC winning streak snapped at the hands of Timur Valiev at UFC Fight Night 190 this past June.

Barcelos lacked the volume of his opponent, but he authored the fight’s most decisive moment when he floored Valiev twice in the second frame. Ultimately, he was unable to secure the finish and Valiev escaped with a majority decision triumph.

"I was one punch away from deciding the fight in the second round and let it escape,” Barcelos told Sherdog.com. “But that defeat was a great learning experience for me and it opened my mind, just increasing my desire to train more and never letting the fights go to the judges. That's what I´ll focus on Saturday.”

Originally slated to face Trevin Jones, Barcelos will instead meet Victory Henry on short notice in a bantamweight contest at UFC Fight Night 199 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday. The opponent change didn’t faze the former R…

A pivotal bout between middleweight contenders Derek Brunson and Jared Cannonier is getting a new date.

According to ESPN, Brunson vs. Cannonier has shifted from UFC 270 on Jan. 22 to UFC 271 on Feb. 12. UFC 271 takes place at the Toyota Center in Houson and is headlined by a middleweight championship rematch between Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker. Brunson is currently in the midst of the second five-bout winning streak of his UFC tenure. That stretch includes triumphs over the likes of Darren Till, Kevin Holland and Edmen Shahbazyan in headlining appearances in his last three outings. The North Carolina native previously authored a five-bout winning streak from August 2014 to September 2016 before losing four of his next six inside the Octagon.

Gegard Mousasi to Defend Bellator Title vs. Austin Vanderford on Feb. 25 in Dublin

Gegard Mousasi will make his next middleweight title defense against Austin Vanderford at a Bellator MMA event in Dublin, Ireland on Feb. 25.

MMAjunkie.com was first to report the booking. Vanderford had already been tabbed as the No. 1 contender at 185 pounds, so it was just a matter of announcing a date and venue for his matchup with Mousasi. The card, which has not been formally announced by the promotion, takes place at 3Arena.

Mousasi, 36, regained middleweight gold with a five-round verdict against ex-welterweight champ Douglas Lima at Bellator 250 in October 2020.
