Paulo Costa Says He Hasn’t Signed Contract to Face Robert Whittaker at UFC 284

One of the most highly-anticipated fights at UFC 284 is apparently not yet official.

While the Las Vegas-based promotion announced a middleweight bout between Paulo Costa and Robert Whittaker for Perth last month, Costa revealed in an interview with AgFight that he has not received a contract from the UFC as of yet. According to Costa, he had a meeting with UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell about renewing his deal with the organization, but his request for an increase in pay was not met.

“They recognized the current value is wrong and promised to give me feedback,” Costa said.

During the interview, Costa also revealed that his lawyers who are handling the contract told him to consider that possibility that he might not fulfill the last fight on the deal.

"There is one fight left, but the contract can also be finished [over a certain period of time],” he said. “I truly hope we can come to an agreement because I would love to fa…

Maycee Barber, Andrea Lee to Clash at UFC Event on March 25

A flyweight showdown pitting Maycee Barber against Andrea Lee is on tap for an Ultimate Fighting Championship event on March 25.

MMAFighting.com was first to report the booking. A location and venue for the card have not been confirmed.

After back-to-back losses to Roxanne Modafferi and Alexa Grasso halted her momentum, Barber has righted the ship in recent months. The 24-year-old former Dana White’s Contender Series competitor has rebounded to post successive triumphs over Miranda Maverick, Montana De La Rosa and Jessica Eye to improve her UFC mark to 6-2 overall. Her last appearance was a decision win over Eye at UFC 276 this past July.

Lee, meanwhile, had a two-bout winning streak snapped at UFC on ESPN 36, where she dropped a unanimous decision to Viviane Araujo on May 14. Prior to that, “KGB” went 2-0 in 2021 with finishes of Cynthia Calvillo and Antonina Shevchenko.

After Meeting with UFC Execs, Sean O’Malley Says Next Fight is for 135-Pound Title

Sean O'Malley might not be the next person to fight for the UFC bantamweight title, but he expects that championship gold will be on the line when he makes his Octagon return.

“I think in talks, Henry [Cejudo] coming back is what everyone’s waiting for,” O’Malley recently told ESPN. “If I had to guess [what’s next], Henry vs. [Aljamain Sterling]. If you’re the champ you should be fighting consistently. You just had a somewhat easy fight against T.J. The people want to see the champ fight. I think Henry vs. Aljo in March makes sense if Henry really is serious about coming back, and then I’d like to fight the winner of that. It’s hard to say exactly what’s going to happen next, but I’m waiting to see where that goes.”

O’Malley is coming off the biggest win of his career to date, a split-decision victory against former bantamweight king Petr Yan at UFC 280. Shortly after that victory, “Suga” met with UFC president Dana White and matchmaker Sean Shelby…

Kennedy Nzechukwu Smashes Ion Cutelaba in Makeshift UFC Fight Night 215 Headliner

Kennedy Nzechukwu shined under the glare of an altogether unexpected spotlight.

The monstrous 6-foot-5 Fortis MMA rep overcame an inauspicious start and took another step forward in the Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight division, as he chopped down Ion Cutelaba with a knee strike and follow-up punches in the second round of their makeshift UFC Fight Night 215 headliner on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Nzechukwu (11-3, 5-3 UFC) finished it 62 seconds into Round 2, stepping up to shoulder the marquee when the original Derrick Lewis-Sergey Spivak main event fell apart in the hours leading up to the show.

UFC Fight Night 215 Prelims: Jennifer Maia Upends Favored Maryna Moroz in Las Vegas

Jennifer Maia still wants a say-so in the future direction of the Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s flyweight division.

The former Invicta Fighting Championships titleholder outboxed and outfoxed American Top Team’s Maryna Moroz to a unanimous decision in the featured UFC Fight Night 215 prelim on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. All three cageside judges sided with Maia (20-9-1, 5-5 UFC): 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28.

Maia managed distance beautifully for much of the bout, stringing together efficient punching combinations that were often punctuated by thudding right hands. She sprinkled in kicks here and there—some to the body, some to the head and some to the legs—and reduced Moroz (11-4, 6-4 UFC) to single strikes through superior timing and movement. The Ukrainian rallied in the third round, where she stepped into a right hand, knocked Maia off-balance and started to connect with more than one punch at a time. Alas, her efforts fell sho…
