Bill Algeo Explains Reasoning Behind Callout of ‘D—head’ Giga Chikadze

Shortly after Bill Algeo
earned his first Octagon triumph with a unanimous verdict over
Spike
Carlyle
at
UFC on ESPN 18
, he issued a callout to Giga
Chikadze
.

Algeo has had Chikadze on the brain ever since an encounter with
the former Glory Kickboxing Standout at Kings MMA. Chikadze has
built some momentum in the Las Vegas-based promotion with five
consecutive wins to kick off his tenure — including four in 2020
alone. However, according to Algeo, the Georgian fighter wasn’t so
successful in what was supposed to be a light sparring session.

“Myself and coach, we were on vacation in California and we went to
Kings MMA, which is Rafael
Cordeiro
’s school. Rafael
Cordeiro
could not have been more welcoming, He’s such a nice
guy,” Algeo said.

“He had one d— head student—Giga, who tried to take my head off
with little gloves. I was like, ‘I’m on vacation, man.’ We were
going light and he wasn’t winning. He was losing. He’s got some hot
blood. He was just trying to take my head off with little gloves
after I started tagging him a little bit.  After that, I saw
him get signed by the UFC and said, ‘Perfect, there’s my guy.’”

Algeo also got the better of Carlyle, outlanding his foe by a
70-to-23 count in significant strikes while successfully defending
nine of 13 takedown attempts. Though Algeo wasn’t completely
pleased with his performance, he was still happy to earn a victory
after losing a decision to Ricardo
Lamas
in his short-notice debut at UFC Fight Night 175 on Aug.
29.

“I wanted to win. You always want the ‘Performance of the Night’ or
a knockout of the night, but it takes two to tango,” Algeo said.
“When one guy is just waiting, level-changing and tackling—you
can’t do much with that. So I’ll play it safe, tag you and wait for
you to do something stupid. I didn’t have much to capitalize on,
but I’ll take the win all day.”

No matter what the future holds for Algeo, it appears his callout
drew Chikadze’s attention.
