Bellator
MMA‘s return to Paris is set after a successful
Bellator 280 weigh-in that saw all fighters make weight.
Headlining the promotion’s second mixed martial arts card in France
is a heavyweight title rematch between Ryan Bader
and Cheick
Kongo. The duo’s first meeting, which came back in 2019, ended
as a no contest after an accidental eye poke. Now, Kongo will get a
second shot at championship gold.
Bader (29-7, 1 NC) has had an up-and-down career since the no
contest, having lost his light heavyweight belt to Vadim
Nemkov and suffering a 51-second knockout to Corey
Anderson. However, Bader also won a five-round decision over
Lyoto
Machida, and unified the heavyweight straps against interim
titleholder Valentin
Moldavsky in his most recent bout. Bader officially weighed
232.8 pounds, clocking in as the lighter man.
Kongo (31-11-2, 1 NC) has only fought twice since his first
encounter with Bader. After dropping a split decision to Tim Johnson,
the French fighter rebounded with a rear-naked choke victory over
Sergei
Kharitonov. Kongo enters the bout weighing 241.4 pounds.
Bellator 280’s main card will air live on Showtime at 4 p.m. ET/1
p.m. PT on Friday, with prelims streaming on YouTube at 1 p.m.
ET/10 a.m. PT.
