Bellator
MMA‘s flyweight championship will be on the line in the
Bellator 278 main event tomorrow as all fighters successfully
made weight.
The card is quite top-heavy with a flyweight title fight between
Juliana
Velasquez and Liz
Carmouche as the headliner. The main card also features two
bantamweight grand prix wild card bouts: Jornel Lugo
vs. Danny
Sabatello and Enrique
Barzola vs. Nikita
Mikhailov, although the latter is at a 140-pound catchweight. A
scheduled contest between C.J.
Hamilton vs. Erik Perez
was scratched the day prior for currently undetermined reasons.

Velasquez (12-0) looks to make her second championship defense
against Carmouche. The unbeaten fighter has been perfect throughout
her seven-fight tenure with the promotion, but she was tested in
her last outing, claiming a split decision over Denise
Kielholtz. The 35-year-old from Brazil won a unanimous decision
in December 2020 over Ilima-Lei
Macfarlane to claim the belt. The champ officially weighed
124.8 pounds.
A former
Ultimate Fighting Championship title contender, Carmouche
enters the cage Friday with a 16-7 record. “Girl-Rilla” is 3-0
inside Bellator, and is coming off a decisive 35-second TKO finish
over the previously undefeated Kana
Watanabe in her last outing. Carmouche officially weighed 125
pounds on the dot.
Bellator 278’s main card will air live on Showtime on Friday
starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The prelims begin one hour prior
on the promotion’s YouTube page.
