UFC lightweight Jared Gordon was far from 100 percent for his last Octagon appearance, but he has a good reason for it.

Gordon was involved in a street fight outside a barber shop in Queens, N.Y., this past December that resulted in him nearly losing three fingers. Gordon and a friend who trains Brazilian jiu-jitsu were talking to one of the friend’s former students when the group was attacked by what Gordon called “two gang members.” One of the two gang members spat in the ex-student’s face and took a swing at him, and that’s when Gordon and his friend stepped in to intervene.

“That’s when I jumped him,” Gordon told Bloody Elbow. “We all started fighting. My friend starts fighting the other kid, and they bumped into me and the kid I was fighting. We hit the storefront window, and the whole thing came down on us.”

A flyweight bout between top contenders Sergio Pettis and Jussier da Silva is in the works for UFC 229.

Multiple outlets have confirmed the booking following an initial report from ESPN.com. UFC 229 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 6. A headliner has not been announced for the card. The Pettis-da Silva winner could presumably be the next No. 1 contender for the 125-pound title.

Pettis rebounded from a loss to Henry Cejudo in December to earn the biggest win of his career to date, as he took a split decision over Joseph Benavidez at UFC 225 on June 9. The 24-year-old Roufusport product has won five of his last six Octagon appearances, with other notable triumphs coming against Brandon Moreno, John Moraga and Chris Cariaso.

Demetrious Johnson apparently accepted a champion vs. champion superfight against T.J. Dillashaw earlier this year before an injury derailed those plans.

“Mighty Mouse,” the reigning UFC flyweight champion, revealed during a recent conference call that he didn’t get offered the fight against Dillashaw, the bantamweight king, after he recovered from shoulder surgery.

“I accepted the fight, I got injured, I had surgery, and they never offered it to me after I got injured,” Johnson said. “When they offered it to me I accepted, I got injured and got surgery, and then when it came time to fight again, from my understanding, from my management’s point of view, T.J. got offered to fight Cody [Garbrandt] with a brand new deal, so God bless him for getting a new deal to fight Cody.

Reigning Legacy Fighting Alliance champion Ian Heinisch knocked out Justin Sumter with a volley of violent elbows in the first round of their middleweight clash on Season 2, Week 7 of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series at the UFC Training Center in Las Vegas.

Former women’s bantamweight title challenger Bethe Correia has withdrawn from a proposed bout against Irene Aldana at UFC 227 due to injury, the promotion announced Tuesday.

The 135-pound contest will not be replaced, so Saturday’s card will proceed with 12 bouts. UFC 227 takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and is headlined by a bantamweight title rematch between T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt. In the co-main event, Demetrious Johnson will defend his flyweight crown against Henry Cejudo in another rematch.

The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Prelims begin on UFC Fight Pass before moving to FX at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m PT. Correia vs. Aldana was slated for the FX portion of the prelims.

When Conor McGregor makes his highly-anticipated Ultimate Fighting Championship return, it will likely be in Las Vegas.

The former UFC two-division champion spoke briefly with TMZ Sports regarding his next move after jogging on the streets of New York. While he did not confirm whether Khabib Nurmagomedov would be his next opponent, he did give some insight into the venue for his next bout.

“We’ll see what happens,” McGregor said as he was jogging on the streets of New York. “I’d love to fight in the Garden again. But I believe this one is Las Vegas.”’

The promotion currently has two pay-per-view cards scheduled for Las Vegas for the remainder of 2018: UFC 229 on Oct. 6 and UFC 232 on Dec. 29, both of which will take place at the T-Mobile Arena. The Irish star has not competed since defeating Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt inside Madison Square Garden at UFC 205 in November 2016.

Max Holloway doesn’t have a definitive answer as to why his health deteriorated just prior to his scheduled title defense at UFC 226, but he knows that he definitely did not suffer a stroke.

“When we were in the ER with doctors the word ‘stroke’ never came up,” Holloway said during an appearance on "Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show" on Monday. “I was in disbelief when people were trying to use that. My entire team wasn’t in the ER, so when we heard the rumors come out I thought it was just clickbait. If it was a stroke or heart problem or whatever people were gossiping about, how in their right mind would the doctors discharge me from the hospital? I was never scared I was never going to fight again. It never crossed my mind I might not fight again.”

After a couple lengthy stints on the sideline due to numerous issues, it appeared that Jones had scored something of a redemptive victory. Only, it wasn’t. Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that Jones tested positive for the anabolic steroid Turinabol at the event. As a result, he was suspended and stripped of the belt he had only just regained. The victory, of course, was changed to a no contest by the California State Athletic Commission.

Mairbek Taisumov will look to build upon a five-bout winning streak in the Octagon when he faces Desmond Green at UFC Fight Night Moscow on Sept. 15.

Taisumov revealed the lightweight booking via social media on Sunday. UFC Fight Night 136 takes place in Moscow and is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Alexey Oleynik and Mark Hunt. The card will stream in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass.

Taisumov was supposed to face Evan Dunham at UFC 223 but had to withdraw from the matchup due to visa issues. The Chechen fighter has finished all of his last five opponents by knockout or technical knockout. Most recently, he stopped Felipe Silva via KO in 84 seconds at UFC Fight Night 115 on Sept. 2. Taisumov owns a 26-5 career mark.

Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez fought over a year ago, but their duel ended in a lousy “No Contest.” The two vowed redemption and a thrilling fight; both predicted a knockout. They were both right and the fight more than lived up to expectations as they waged one of the best wars of 2018 thus far.

However, Alvarez couldn’t withstand the Louisiana native’s crushing power as Poirier ended things in spectacular fashion in the second round at UFC on Fox 30.

“Nako” used his Division I wrestling prowess to dismantle and dominate fellow unbeaten challenger Kyle Stewart in the LFA 46 main event on Friday, retaining his Legacy Fighting Alliance welterweight title in the process. The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Calgary on Saturday with a much better offering the second time around. The promotion’s first card in the Canadian city was UFC 149, which is largely considered one of the worst events in mixed martial arts history.

Perhaps in an effort to assuage disgruntled fans in Calgary, the UFC stacked the deck this time, with three former champions looking for a path back to their respective titles and exciting prospects looking to build on some serious momentum.

Former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez (155) will run it back against Dustin Poirier (156) in a rematch of their UFC 211 no-contest, while former featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo (146) looks to get back to his winning ways against surging a Jeremy Stephens (144).

As if that wasn’t enough, recently deposed strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk (115) will attempt to work her way back up the rankings…

News of Conor McGregor’s plea deal on Thursday makes him eligible to fight again, and also without travel restrictions. That news was not lost on McGregor’s lightweight rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who promptly called for a title fight against the former divisional champion.

The two have a storied history together, with McGregor’s April arrest stemming from an assault allegedly intended for Nurmagomedov himself after the undefeated Dagestani’s altercation with McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov days earlier.

With McGregor no longer facing jail time or felony charges, Nurmagomedov was quick to issue an official challenge:

"Glad that he stayed out of jail, because I wouldn’t be able to punish him in that case,” Nurmagomedov told MMA Junkie on Thursday. “Now he needs to bring his Irish team to MSG in November and finish our business."

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight champion Jose Aldo will compete in his first non-title fight this Saturday since joining the promotion back in 2011, as he takes on Jeremy Stephens in a three-round tilt at UFC on Fox 30.

Although Aldo is just 31 years-old, the former world champion has already settled on retiring once his current UFC contract runs its course. The 14-year professional mixed martial arts veteran began his career back in 2004 and currently has just three fights left on his UFC contract, and the Brazilian is looking to end his career on a high note:

Ultimate Fighting Championship superstar Conor McGregor’s legal problems are now behind him, as the Irishman plead guilty to a single count of disorderly conduct on Thursday morning.

The 30-year-old’s legal team was able to negotiate a plea deal with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office that involves no jail time and no criminal record. McGregor’s travel visa, which the former two-time world champion relies on to fight on various events across the globe, will not be affected under the plea deal, either.

"I just want to say I'm thankful to the D.A. and the judge for allowing me to move forward," McGregor told reporters outside the courthouse on Thursday. "I want to say to my friends, my family, my fans -- thank you for your support."

Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier plans to retire by March 2019 and has already pencilled in his final fights which are title defenses against Corey Anderson at 205 pounds and then World Wrestling Entertainment superstar and former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar at heavyweight.

On Tuesday, Cormier accepted the invitation of Anderson, who reached out to him on Twitter about a potential title shot before the champ retires. That fight will potentially happen first due to the fact that Lesnar only entered the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) testing pool in early July and is required to be in it for six months before he can compete.

Some matchups just jump off the page as soon as they’re announced. Jeremy Stephens vs. Jose Aldo certainly fits that bill, but the featherweight co-headliner at UFC on Fox 30 is far more than just a “Fight of the Night” candidate.

Before he ran into Conor McGregor at UFC 194, Aldo was universally recognized as the greatest featherweight of all time. The long-reigning 145-pound king rebounded from the shocking 13-second knockout loss against the Irishman to claim the interim crown with a five-round verdict over Frankie Edgar at UFC 200. Aldo’s hold on the division proved brief, as he has since lost back-to-back fights in decisive fashion to current featherweight champion Max Holloway.

The UFC Fight Night 134 main card averaged 492,000 viewers on Fox Sports 1 on Sunday, according to figures released by ShowBuzz Daily.

That ranks as the lowest figure for a Fight Night card on FS1 this year, but the ratings are comparable to other UFC events recently held on Sunday. For example: Last year’s UFC Fight Night 113, which took place on Sunday, July 16 and was headlined by a welterweight clash between Santiago Ponzinibbio and Gunnar Nelson, attracted an audience of 402,000 to FS1.

UFC Fight Night 134 took place at Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg Germany. In the evening’s main event, Anthony Smith knocked out Mauricio Rua in 89 seconds, while Corey Anderson earned a decision victory over Glover Teixeira in the co-feature. Both bouts featured replacement opponents, as Rua was originally scheduled to face Volkan Oezdemir and Teixeira was initially paired with Ilir Latifi.
