An arrest warrant has been issued for Nate Diaz for
his role in a brawl on Bourbon Street in New Orleans over the
weekend.
The former UFC star is facing a charge of second-degree battery
after a video of Diaz choking YouTube personality Rodney Peterson
went viral. Diaz is not currently in custody, according to the New
Orleans Police Department. Second-degree battery is a felony in
Louisiana and can be punished by up to eight years in prison and a
$2,000 fine.
Police spokesperson Karen Boudrie told
ESPN that officers were informed of a “large altercation” on
the 400 block of Bourbon Street at approximately 2:10 a.m. Saturday
morning. EMS responders attended to a white male who was believed
to be unconscious and was “bleeding from the rear of his head.”
Diaz was in New Orleans to support teammate Chris Avila
at a Misfits Boxing 6 event. In the video, Diaz is seen applying a
standing choke and throwing a knee to the midsection fof Peterson,
who is known for his resemblance to Logan Paul.
Peterson eventually is rendered unconscious as Diaz drops him to
the street.
Peterson, who has amateur experience in MMA and is 1-0 as a
professional boxer, later reacted to the incident in a video on
social media.
“I don’t know what the hell I did to Nate Diaz,”
Petersen said. “But I’m telling you what, I’m gonna knock him the
f— out when I know he’s coming. You caught me off guard, dude.
What did you think I was, Logan?”

The street brawl wasn’t the only altercation of Diaz’s weekend. The
Stockton, Calif., native also threw a water bottle at reality TV
star Chase DeMoor during the boxing event, which forced security to
intervene between the two parties.

Diaz became a free agent after completing his UFC contract last
September. He is scheduled to face Jake Paul in
a boxing match in Dallas on Aug. 5.
