It seems that COVID-19 has forced the
Ultimate Fighting Championship
to change some of its plans for
an upcoming “Fight Island” show. On Friday,
MMA Fighting
reported that Anderson
dos Santos
has tested positive for COVID-19. Dos Santos (20-8)
should have locked horns with Jack Shore
on the
upcoming “Fight Island” card on July 15
.

“Berinja” is now in quarantine at a hotel in Sao Paulo, Brazil,
along with his coach Marcos “Babuino,” who also tested positive for
COVID-19. The 34-year old Brazilian fighter was looking to bounce
back from his two-bout skid against “Tank.” In his latest Octagon
appearances, dos Santos was edged via unanimous decision by both
Nad
Narimani
and Andre Ewell
at UFC Fight Night 140 and UFC Fight Night 154, respectively.

Shortly after the dos Santos news came out, MMA
Fighting
reported that Vinicius
Moreira Castro
also tested positive for COVID-19. He was
supposed to clash with Modestas
Bukauskas
on the same July 15 card, and has likewise been
forced out.

After earning a UFC contract on the Brazilian edition of Dana White’s Contender Series, Moreira has not
had great luck inside the Octagon. “Mamute” has been finished in
the first round in each of those bouts, losing to Paul Craig,
Eryk
Anders
and Alonzo
Menifield
in 2019.

It’s unclear at the moment whether Shore and Bukauskas will receive
new opponents. To date, six UFC fighters have officially tested
positive for COVID-19. Unfortunately for all of them, dos Santos
and Moreira joined a club whose membership extends to Ronaldo
Souza
, Billy
Quarantillo
, Lyman Good
and Jimmie
Rivera
.
