Amanda Bobby Cooper is going to fight Saturday at UFC 224, despite her opponent badly missing weight by seven pounds.
Mackenzie Dern hit the scale at 123 pounds during early weigh-ins Friday morning and she will lose 30 percent of her show money, 20 percent of which will go to Cooper, with the remaining 10 percent going to CABMMA. Nevertheless, the finalist of the 23th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” accepted the bout at a catchweight that the fighter called on her social media properties a “strawweight vs flyweight” bout.
“[The situation] is incredibly unprofessional, I mean she basically weighed in for the next class up from me,” Cooper said to Sherdog.com. “The reason I chose to still fight is because I worked too hard to have this opportunity taken from me, I’m a fighter, it’s what I live for. When my coach came in and told me she wasn’t even remotely close, all I asked was, what do I have to do to make the fight happen; I didn’t do this all for nothing.”
