Aaron McKenzie Outstrikes Brandon Phillips in LFA 104 Main Event

McKenzie
proved that he’s one to watch in the
Legacy Fighting Alliance
lightweight division.

The main event of
LFA 104
saw McKenzie (10-2-1) get tested by Brandon
Phillips
. After a close first round, Phillips (6-4) began
hurting McKenzie with body shots and slick striking. However,
McKenzie came on strong in Round 3 with an aggressive strategy, and
he was able to hurt Phillips with an onslaught of punches. The
clutch Round 3 performance was enough for McKenzie to take home a
decision victory, with all three judges scoring the fight 29-28 in
his favor.

The night’s co-main event saw flyweights Donavon
Frelow
and Yuma
Horiuchi
looking to each snap their respective losing streaks.
In the end, it was Horiuchi (8-3) that got back into the win
column. After losing a point for grabbing the cage, Horiuchi was
able to lock in a tight armbar after being rocked by Frelow (6-5).
With his arm extended, Frelow
was forced to verbally submit
at 1:31 of Round 2.

Joel
Bauman
showed that he’s a better fighter than rapper against
fellow middleweight Julien
Leblanc
. The sharp striking of Bauman (4-1) looked great over
15 minutes, and Leblanc (5-2) was unable to do much damage in his
first fight since 2018. After three rounds of action, Bauman was
awarded the fight via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Chris
Brown
. snapped a two-fight losing streak at the expense of
Kelvin
Rayford
. The striking of “Breezy the Future” gave Rayford fits
over 15 minutes. Brown punished “Next Level” and cruised to a
unanimous decision picking up scores of 30-27 from all three
judges.

In a 150-pound catchweight contest, Javier
Garcia
scored a huge submission comeback win over Timothy
Teves
. The slick grappling of Garcia (7-3) made sure the judges
weren’t needed as
he locked in a triangle choke late in the fight
. With just 11
seconds left in the fight, Teves (5-3) had no choice but to
submit.

Heavyweight prospect Thomas
Petersen
stayed undefeated against Odell
Pantin
. Petersen (4-0) easily controlled Pantin (1-2) on the
ground and landed several damaging elbows. After taking back mount,
Petersen
landed a series of punches
that forced the fight to be stopped
at 3:33 of Round 1.

In the opening bout, Roland
Dunlap
picked up an incredible slam KO against Obinwa
Ikebunna
. Late in Round 1, Dunlap (2-0) picked up his opponent
after a double leg takedown attempt and planted Ikebunna (2-2) on
the ground. Ikebunna’s
head hit off the canvas
and he was completely out as Dunlap
unloaded elbows. The end came at 4:19 of the first frame.

In preliminary action, Gunner
Coronado
(2-1) picked up a TKO victory over Tristin
Kamaka
(0-1) at 3:02 of Round 3, and Sidney
Trillo
edged out a split decision win over Melissa
Oddessa Parker
with scores of 30-27, 28-29 and 30-27.
