A pair of welterweight showdowns anchor Bellator 182 on Friday night as the popular California-based promotion is set to take over Turning Stone Casino in Verona, N.Y. The card is stacked with intriguing matchups but the pivotal showdown between Andrey Koreshkov and Chidi Njokuani atop the marquee is the most alluring of the bunch.
Koreshkov, a powerful Russian who has knocked out nearly half of his opponents, is coming off a third-round knockout loss to Douglas Lima at Bellator 164 last November. Koreshkov lost his welterweight title that night and “Spartan” is dead set on getting it back. He first must get through another fierce striker in Njokuani and he looked terrific on the scale. Koreshkov weighed in at 171 pounds.
Njokuani has been on a tear lately, having won seven in a row since fighting to a “no Contest” against Chris Heatherly at RFA 13 more than three years ago. “Chidi Bang Bang” in unbeaten inside the Bellator cage and is coming off a knockout of Andre Fialho at Bellator 167 and a decision win over longtime veteran Melvin Guillard at Bellator 171. The Las Vegas fighter weighed in at 175.
Bellator 182 will be televised live on Spike TV beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. The prelims will stream live on Sherdog.
