Anthony
Hernandez (14-2) would like to have some room for error if he
fights Robert
Whittaker (26-8).
Making his way to the upper echelon of the middleweight division,
Hernandez is now on the verge of attaining contender status. When
asked about a potential clash against Whittaker next, Hernandez was
excited by the idea.
“Fluffy” said that he would prefer five rounds against the former
champ. Known for getting better as the fight progresses, Hernandez
often gets tagged in the opening frame of the fight.
“I would love it. That would be an honor, he’s a G,” Hernandez told
Home of Fight. “I mean, he’s been in the sport forever. I would
love to fight him. That would be a fun one, especially with his
style… I’m sure I would get hit with some s—t cause that motherf—er
is good. He’s been around forever. I think a five rounder would be
great because it gives me time with those hiccup rooms. I’ve
usually been caught within the first couple of seconds. It’s
unfortunate, but it’s something that happens. So someone like him,
I think five rounds would be ideal. Because I definitely have
hiccup room. I’m not a perfect person. I f— up a lot.”
Hernandez is now riding a seven-fight winning streak with five
finishes. The 31-year-old most recently earned a unanimous decision
win in a rematch against Brendan
Allen at UFC
Seattle last month. Meanwhile, Whittaker is coming off a first
round submission loss against Khamzat
Chimaev that snapped a two-fight winning streak.
