After defeating Benoit St.
Denis by doctor stoppage in the second round of the
UFC Fight Night 243 headliner, Renato
Carneiro revealed some of the behind-the-scenes details
surrounding the bout.

In a video on his YouTube channel, “Moicano” began by discussing
the nature of the shoulder injury he had going into the lightweight
bout.
“First thing I have to say is that my shoulder was really injured.
I suffered a ligament rupture (AC joint level 5 shoulder clavicle
dislocation). Actually it was a surgery case, but I had to fight in
that main event, so I kept training every day and going every day
to physiotherapy,” Carneiro said. “It was such a hard experience,
but I couldn’t give up because ‘Moicano’ can´t afford to lose.”
Carneiro also confirmed Brendan
Allen’s complaints regarding the French Mixed Martial Arts
Federation (FMMAF). According to Allen, only he and “Moicano” were
subject to blood and urine tests following weigh-ins. Their
opponents, Nassourdine
Imavov and St. Denis, did not undergo the same tests.
“Let’s talk about the s—-y athletic commission in France. Sons of
bitches,” Carneiro said. “They tried to f—k me there in France …
There really was this conspiracy there to harm foreign fighters in
France, and this has to be talked about, it has to be shared.
“I was there completely dehydrated. I had just made weight, and a
guy from the committee arrived and simply said: ‘Moicano, you were
randomly selected to do a urine and blood test.’ But the next thing
is, I was completely dehydrated. I had lost [almost 13 pounds]
overnight. So I was really replacing the fluids, and they said the
following: ‘We don’t have enough agents to test everyone, so you’re
going to have to stay in this room here.’ Me, Brendan Allen and
other foreign fighters waited for four hours until I could do the
urine and blood test, because they couldn’t even find the vein. The
blood was thin.
“And so they left me waiting for four hours, until 2 p.m. Since at
4:30pm there was a weigh-in for the public, we had to move from the
hotel to the arena to do the face-off. Meanwhile, from 9 a.m. or 10
a.m. in the morning, Benoit St. Denis and all the fighters were
already in the room. And they had the nerve to say that this was
random and that it wouldn’t affect some more than others. Clearly I
saw Brendan Allen and his coaches extremely angry. My coach was
also angry, but I said ‘There’s nothing to do, let’s do what
they’re saying, I’m not going to let it affect me,’ and I went to
the fight [completely focused]. I woke up the next day ready to
massacre St. Denis.
The FMMAF stated that the anti-doping agency considered that there
was no need to test the French at that time, but promised
adjustments to avoid doubts and future complaints.
