Manel
Kape and Muhammad
Mokaev were allegedly involved in a physical altercation at the
UFC Performance Institute.
Kape and Mokaev are slated to trade leather at UFC 304
on July 17 at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester, England.
According UFC featherweight Jean Silva,
Kape recently attacked Mokaev at the UFC PI in Las Vegas. The exact
date of the incident is unclear.
According to Silva, he was supposed to spar Kape on the day but saw
“Starboy” attacking Mokaev outside the entrance door to the PI when
he arrived. Silva claims Kape headbutted and elbowed Mokaev. Silva
also emphasized that none of the Russians present there came to
assist Mokaev, who is a Dagestan-born Brit.
“Manel Kape hit Mokaev here outside the gym a while ago,” Silva
said in a live stream with Ag.Fight (translation via Championship Rounds). “He
elbowed Mokaev in the head on the street, bro. Did this already
appear on the internet? I’m already telling them, f—- you. Bro, he
caught Mokaev at the entrance here to the [UFC] PI. He headbutted
him and elbowed him. In the street. He opened Mokaev’s head a week
before his fight. He’s [Kape] a psychopath. And I was going to spar
with him that day. When I arrived, he just came butting his head
here. He was right at the entrance to the PI. The Russians here,
bro, they didn’t even help. They just watched Mokaev take a d—-.
Then Mokaev said, ‘I’m going to catch you.’”
According to Silva, the feud started with Mokaev alleged saying
that he will slap Kape. Silva claims the undefeated flyweight
backed down and tried to apologize when confronted by Kape, who
would have none of it.
“Mokaev had said he was going to slap [Kape] in the face,” Silva
said. “Then [Kape] saw Mokaev and Mokaev wanted to apologize and he
[Kape] said, ‘Apologies won’t be accepted, now you’ll have to do
it.’ Then Mokaev took a step back. When I went down and opened the
second door, he arrived and headbutted Mokaev and elbowed him.
Mokaev fell to the ground. Then the Russians just watched.”
Kape also briefly appeared on Silva’s stream to tell Mokaev: “This
will be the second time I’m going to hit you [Mokaev]. But calm
down.”
As of now there is no other report of the incident to confirm
Silva’s account. It remains to be seen whether the UFC 304 clash
between Kape and Mokaev gets affected due to this alleged
brawl.
Mokaev has finished four of his six UFC victories and is fresh off
a unanimous decision win over veteran contender Alex Perez
this past March. Meanwhile, Kape is riding a four-fight winning
streak with a unanimous decision win over debutant Felipe
dos Santos in his most recent outing at UFC 293 in September
2023. While Kape was scheduled to meet Matheus
Nicolau on the first UFC card of this year in January, the bout
fell off due to the Angolan missing weight by 3.5 pounds.
