The Las Vegas-based promotion announced Monday that the venue will
be the site for NXT Battleground” on June 9. The
Ultimate Fighting Championship and WWE
merged under the same ownership umbrella, TKO Group Holdings,
last year.
“We are always exploring new frontiers to showcase NXT and we are
excited to bring Battleground to this world-class event and
production facility in partnership with UFC,” said WWE senior vice
president of talent development creative Shawn Michaels in a
release.
According to a report from ESPN, NXT Battleground was intially scheduled
to take place at Enmarket Arena in Savannah, Georgia, before
relocating to Las Vegas. A reason for the move was not announced.
It is unclear how many tickets will be available for the event,
though the release states “limited NXT Battleground priority passes
will soon be available.”
The WWE event will not conflict with the UFC that weekend, as the
Fight Night card slated for June 8 will be held at the KFCYum!
Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The promotion typically holds a
large number of its UFC Fight Night events — along with
Dana White’s Contender Series cards — at the 130,000 square
foot facility.
The promotion will return to the Apex on Saturday for UFC
on ESPN 55, which is headlined by a flyweight showdown between
Matheus
Nicolau and Alex Perez.
