Thereโs now a little more clarity regarding the direction of
Bellator
MMA in the coming months.
Professional Fighters League on Monday officially announced the
launch of Bellator Champions Series, which will feature eight
events airing on prime time in European Markets over the course of
the year. This will begin with Bellator 302 at the SSE Arena in
Belfast, Ireland on March 22. Future Bellator Champions Series
events will take place in the U.K., Italy, Portugal, Belgian,
France and other locations, according to a release.
Bellator 302 will be headlined by a previously-reported light
heavyweight title clash between Corey
Anderson and Karl Moore.
Additionally, Leah
McCourt will square off against Sinead
Kavanagh in the eveningโs featherweight co-main event. Bellator
302 and future Champions Series events will air internationally on
DAZN. A U.S. broadcast partner is expected to be announced in the
coming weeks.
โAfter the landmark acquisition of Bellator, the Professional
Fighters League is excited to officially announce a new era of MMA
with the launch of the โBellator Champions Seriesโ global
franchise,โ said PFL CEO Peter Murray. โThe Bellator Champions
Series will feature reigning Bellator champion fighters defending
their titles against the best fighters in the world from the
start-studded Bellator roster. Fans will have access to the best
competition and the most innovate formats in MMA distributed by
leaders in sport including DAZN.โ
Kavanagh defeated McCourt via unanimous decision in their first
meeting at Bellator 275 in February 2022. McCourt has since won two
of her last three bouts, including a first-round TKO of former UFC
title challenger Sara McMann
in her most recent outing at Bellator 300.
Kavanagh is coming off a 1-1 campaign in 2023. Most recently, she
dropped a split decision against Sara
Collins at Bellator 299 this past September.
