A highly-anticipated unification bout for the
Cage Warriors Fighting Championship featherweight title will
top CW
145.
Both champion Jordan
Vucenic and interim titleholder Paul Hughes
made weight for their rematch. It was Vucenic (9-1) that took a
debated split decision win over Hughes (8-1) back in 2020. Beyond
the main event, all fighters made weight except for Festus
Ahorlu, who had complications with his weight cut and was set
to face Faisal
Malik. That bantamweight bout has been scrapped as a result.
Additionally, the 135-pound contest between Salvatore
Liga and Liam
Gittins has been removed from the billing after Liga could not
get medically cleared to step in the cage.
Since their 2020 encounter, Hughes has won two straight fights, and
claimed the interim championship by winning a majority decision
over Morgan
Charriere late last year. Meanwhile, Vucenic has also defeated
two mixed martial artists, returning earlier this year to submit
James
Hendin with a rear-naked choke. “The Epidemic” weighed 145
pounds on the dot, while Hughes came in at 144.6 pounds.
Cage Warriors 145 will stream in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass on
Friday. Prelims begin at 3:15 p.m. ET/12:15 p.m. PT and the main
card kicks off at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. ET.
