Erick Sanchez Annihilates James Lynch with First-Round Knockout at CW 143

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship’s third
foray into California this year didn’t disappoint.

The CW 143 headliner on Friday in San Diego
featured a lightweight clash between Erick
Sanchez
and James
Lynch
. Sanchez (11-6, 1-0 CW) pushed on the gas and connected
with quick punches, which left a mark on his opponent’s face. In
turn, Lynch (5-3, 3-2 CW) looked to stop Sanchez’s footwork with
some leg kicks. The fighters engaged in a brief scramble on the
canvas before bouncing back to their feet. Sanchez’s elusiveness
paid off after the clash entered its second minute. The Team Alpha
Male representative made the most of a feint to mask an absolute
right-hand bomb which immediately dropped Lynch to the canvas,
lights out. The official time indicated the 2:31 mark of Round
1.

In the co-main event, Trey
Williams
(6-3, 1-0 CW) outclassed Elijah
Harris
(4-2, 1-2 CW) en route to a unanimous decision. Williams
dominated his opponent on the feet and the canvas, showcasing a
variety of punches. Harris, who came 6.2 pounds heavier on the
scale the day before the clash, offered little offensive on his
own, looking for a big resolutive shot that never came. By the end
of the Round 2, Harris’ face was covered in blood due to the
surgical striking of “The King,” who gave his foe no chance for a
late comeback. When the dust settled, Williams picked up 30-26,
30-26 and 30-27 nods from the judges.

Elsewhere, Jeff Craig
(3-0, 1-0 CW) took home a narrow split decision (29-28, 29-28,
28-29) over Chasen
Blair
(2-1, 2-1 CW) in a welterweight affair; Jordan
Bailey
(8-5, 2-1 CW) submitted veteran J.J. Ambrose
(35-10, 2NC; 0-2 CW) thanks to a guillotine choke at 3:05 in the
second period of their 170-pound clash; featherweight John de
Jesus
(15-10, 1-0 CW) upended Brandon
Laroco
(6-4, 1-2 CW) en route to a unanimous decision (29-28,
29-28, 29-28); in a 140-pound catchweight, Damon
Wilson
(5-0, 4-0 CW) overcame James
Settle
(3-3, 0-2 CW) after the doctor stopped the clash due to
a nasty cut at the end of the first frame; Roberto
Hernandez
(5-1, 3-0 CW) outpointed Brian
Mitchell
(3-2, 0-1 CW) on all scorecards (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
at featherweight; 155-pounder Matt
Hampton
(2-1, 1-0 CW) forced William
Wilson
(1-1, 1-1 CW) to tap due to armbar at 1:44 in Round
1.
