Jake Paul, Tommy Fury to Collide on Aug. 6 at Madison Square Garden

YouTuber Jake Paul
will get to settle the score with a rival in the ring in
August.

On Thursday, Showtime Sports sent out a press release announcing
the pay-per-view boxing card on Aug. 6 at Madison Square Garden in
New York City. The headliner will see Paul (5-0, 4 KOs) box with
Tommy Fury (8-0, 4 KOs) in an eight-round cruiserweight tilt.
Co-headlining the show will be a women’s featherweight championship
clash as Amanda
Serrano
(42-2-1, 30 KOs) comes to blows with Brenda Carabajal
(18-5-1, 9 KOs). The even will be held on Showtime PPV, and tickets
will go on sale at Madison Square Garden’s website on June 29.

Paul and Fury were once booked against one another in December,
only for Fury to have to withdraw due to a broken rib and chest
infection. Instead of taking the time to wait for Fury to recover,
Paul rematched Tyron
Woodley
on short notice and knocked him out in the sixth round.
Before beating Woodley twice, Paul knocked Ben Askren
out, along with former basketball player Nate
Robinson
and fellow YouTuber Ali Eson Gib to get things
rolling. Of the boxers that Paul has faced to date, Fury’s eight
pro matches will make him his most experienced foe inside the
squared circle.

“I wasn’t sure I was going to say yes to another potential matchup
against Tommy after he pulled out of our matchup last year,” Paul
stated in the release. “But ultimately, knocking out a Fury was too
appealing to pass up. I’ve proven I am dedicated to boxing in and
out of the ring, from promoting fights, championing fighters and
fighter pay, to knocking out my opponents. The Furys cannot say the
same, they are selfish ‘tossers.’ On Aug. 6, at the mecca, Madison
Square Garden, the world will see why I am on my way to being a
world champion. I’m honored to fight under the same lights as some
of the greatest professional boxers in history.”

While Paul has yet to face an opponent who has won a professional
boxing match – four debutants and the rematch where Woodley was 0-1
– Fury has achieved that distinction thus far. Even though his
early opposition left much to be desired, with his first seven
opponents sporting a combined record of 14-174-5, his last match in
April saw him defeat 10-1 prospect Daniel Bocianski over the course
of six rounds. Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight champ Tyson Fury,
has been training in boxing for far longer than his opponent,
although he turned pro a bit over a year earlier than Paul.
