CES MMA has snatched up a noteworthy free
agent, who will headline its first jaunt to North Dakota in
May.
Ultimate Fighting Championship vet Anthony
Rocco Martin parted ways with the promotion at the beginning of
January 2021 after ending his contract. He has since signed with
CES, and he will make his company debut at CES
68 on May 6. Sherdog was informed of this news from a
promotional official on Thursday morning. Martin (17-6) will take
on Tyler Vogel
(8-5) in the middleweight division as the main event of this fight
card in Fargo, N.D.
Martin last competed in June 2020, where he fell short to Neil Magny on
the scorecards at UFC 250. While alternating decision wins in his
last four, a defeat to Demian Maia
in 2019 ended a four-fight win streak that saw the fighter once
known as Tony Martin in the top 15 at 170 pounds. After not
re-signing with the UFC, Martin fell on hard times,
getting arrested towards the end of 2021 for an incident
involving battery and lewd conduct where he allegedly punched a
security guard after urinating in public. It is unclear the result
of that matter, but it did not prohibit him from taking a
professional MMA contest this May.
Vogel has not fought in the sport in 2019, when he competed as a
heavyweight – although he weighed in at 206.2 pounds, just a
whisker above the light heavyweight limit while his opponent hit
the scale at 212.4 pounds. Across three sports of MMA, boxing and
bare-knuckle boxing, Vogel has lost eight consecutive bouts,
including his last three by knockout. “The Outlaw” competed among
the ranks of BKFC in 2020, losing to Jake
Bostwick and Dakota
Cochrane in successive appearances. All but one of Vogel’s
career wins have come by knockout.
