Sign up for ESPN+ right here, and you can then stream the UFC live on
your smart TV, computer, phone, tablet or streaming device via the
ESPN app. For the second year in a row, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will see the
price of a pay-per-view rise by an extra $5.
First reported by Newsday
Sports on Thursday and subsequently confirmed by Sherdog, the
UFC will now be charging $74.99 for a PPV purchased through ESPN+.
This follows a
price hike from January 2021, where the promotion and its
broadcast partner lifted the price from $64.99 to $69.99. The
annual subscription fee for ESPN+ is now set at $69.99, which in
itself is an increase from the previous yearβs $59.99. It is
currently unclear whether current yearly subscribers will be
allowed to re-up at the previous rate, like it did in 2021 for a
few months.
News of this comes on the heels of the UFCβs parent company of
Endeavor
releasing information that it has seen its most profitable
third-quarter in quite some time. This included a declaration that
the nine-month period from January to September in 2021 was the
βbestβ and most profitable year-to-date section in company history.
There is no indication that average fighter pay will increase, nor
is there any word if any additional revenue will be shared with the
fighters. Not counting taxes or the cost of an ESPN+ subscription,
fans will now be required to pay $899.88 to buy all 12 yearly PPV
offerings.
This price increase will go into effect for UFC
270 on Jan. 22, which will be headlined by a pair of title
fights at the lightest and heaviest menβs divisions. In the co-main
event, Brandon
Moreno and Deiveson
Figueiredo will have their trilogy match for the flyweight
belt. The main attraction sees heavyweight kingpin Francis
Ngannou attempt to defend his throne for the first time against
interim titleholder Ciryl Gane.
The three additional main card matchups include a featherweight
scrap between Movsar
Evloev and Ilia
Topuria, a heavyweight rumble pitting Greg Hardy
against Alexey
Oleynik and a bantamweight battle between Cody
Stamann and Said
Nurmagomedov.
