Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm
will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame next
year.
The IBHOF
announced on Tuesday that Holm will be enshrined as part of a
three-day ceremony that also includes 2020 and 2021 Hall of Fame
members from June 9-12. In addition to Holm, one-time UFC
competitor James Toney
was also announced as a member of the IBHOF Hall of Fame class.
“I feel very humbled and honored to be acknowledged amongst the
greatest,” Holm said in a release. “I’m kind of speechless
actually. I’m really excited.”
Holm compiled a 33-2-3 record in the Sweet Science, winning 14
championships in three weight classes over the course of an 11-year
professional career. “The Preacher’s Daughter” was named “Female
Fighter of the Year” by Ring Magazine in 2005 and 2006 and was a
popular draw in her hometown of Albuquerque, N.M.
Holm transitioned to MMA in 2011and won her first 10 bouts,
culminating in a shocking KO of Ronda
Rousey at UFC 193 to claim bantamweight gold in November 2015.
The 40-year-old Jackson-Wink MMA product is still going strong in
the UFC after back-to-back decision wins over Raquel
Pennington and Irene
Aldana in 2020.
Toney, meanwhile, went 77-10-3 in boxing, capturing titles in
multiple divisions along the way. His foray into MMA was brief, as
he was famously submitted by Randy
Couture with an arm-triangle choke 3:19 into the opening round
of their fight at UFC 118 on Aug. 28, 2010.
Holm and Toney are the first fighters with UFC experience to be
inducted into the IBHOF Hall of Fame.
