Aaron
McKenzie proved that he’s one to watch in the
Legacy Fighting Alliance lightweight division.
The main event of
LFA 104 saw McKenzie (10-2-1) get tested by Brandon
Phillips. After a close first round, Phillips (6-4) began
hurting McKenzie with body shots and slick striking. However,
McKenzie came on strong in Round 3 with an aggressive strategy, and
he was able to hurt Phillips with an onslaught of punches. The
clutch Round 3 performance was enough for McKenzie to take home a
decision victory, with all three judges scoring the fight 29-28 in
his favor.
The night’s co-main event saw flyweights Donavon
Frelow and Yuma
Horiuchi looking to each snap their respective losing streaks.
In the end, it was Horiuchi (8-3) that got back into the win
column. After losing a point for grabbing the cage, Horiuchi was
able to lock in a tight armbar after being rocked by Frelow (6-5).
With his arm extended, Frelow
was forced to verbally submit at 1:31 of Round 2.
Joel
Bauman showed that he’s a better fighter than rapper against
fellow middleweight Julien
Leblanc. The sharp striking of Bauman (4-1) looked great over
15 minutes, and Leblanc (5-2) was unable to do much damage in his
first fight since 2018. After three rounds of action, Bauman was
awarded the fight via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Chris
Brown. snapped a two-fight losing streak at the expense of
Kelvin
Rayford. The striking of “Breezy the Future” gave Rayford fits
over 15 minutes. Brown punished “Next Level” and cruised to a
unanimous decision picking up scores of 30-27 from all three
judges.
In a 150-pound catchweight contest, Javier
Garcia scored a huge submission comeback win over Timothy
Teves. The slick grappling of Garcia (7-3) made sure the judges
weren’t needed as
he locked in a triangle choke late in the fight. With just 11
seconds left in the fight, Teves (5-3) had no choice but to
submit.
Heavyweight prospect Thomas
Petersen stayed undefeated against Odell
Pantin. Petersen (4-0) easily controlled Pantin (1-2) on the
ground and landed several damaging elbows. After taking back mount,
Petersen
landed a series of punches that forced the fight to be stopped
at 3:33 of Round 1.
In the opening bout, Roland
Dunlap picked up an incredible slam KO against Obinwa
Ikebunna. Late in Round 1, Dunlap (2-0) picked up his opponent
after a double leg takedown attempt and planted Ikebunna (2-2) on
the ground. Ikebunna’s
head hit off the canvas and he was completely out as Dunlap
unloaded elbows. The end came at 4:19 of the first frame.
In preliminary action, Gunner
Coronado (2-1) picked up a TKO victory over Tristin
Kamaka (0-1) at 3:02 of Round 3, and Sidney
