The pay-per-view boxing match between Ben Askren
and Jake
Paul officially has a location and a price point.
Triller Fight Club announced Monday that the April 17 bout will
take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the home of the
NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Askren vs. Paul will cost $49.99 on
pay-per-view and will be available via iNDemand in North American,
while Fite TV will handle distribution internationally.
International price points may vary. The four-hour card begins at 8
p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, while the pay-per-view kicks off at 9 p.m. ET/6
p.m. PT.
There will be no ticket sales to the public, but a limited number
of guests and fans will be invited to attend the event. The card
will also reportedly included a showdown between former UFC
heavyweight champ Frank Mir and
ex-boxing titlist Antonio Tarver.
“Our vision of big fights, big entertainment and world class events
can only fit into a world class venue, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium
fits that vision,” Triller CEO Ryan Kavanaugh said in a release.
“April 17 will have an element of surprise and action for everyone,
from music fans to the casual and diehard fight fan.
“The way we will present the night in this state-of-the-art venue
will continue to redefine consumer engagement for a global
consumer, with world class partners like iNDemand and Fite joining
us not just for this event, but for the others we will have in 2021
and beyond.”
Askren
retired from mixed martial arts in November 2019 to have hip
replacement surgery and underwent a successful procedure this past
August. The 36-year-old known as “Funky” ended his MMA tenure after
back-to-back losses to Jorge
Masvidal and Demian Maia
in the UFC. A two-time NCAA wrestling champion at the University of
Missouri, Askren was unbeaten in his first 20 fights, capturing
titles in Bellator MMA and One Championship along the way. Askren
has bested the likes of Robbie
Lawler, Shinya Aoki,
Douglas
Lima, Andrey
Koreshkov and Lyman Good
over the course of his career.
Paul is a YouTube star, actor and rapper with more than 14 million
followers on Instagram. The younger brother of Logan Paul made his
boxing debut in January 2020, when he defeated fellow YouTube
celebrity AnEsonGib — whose given name is Ali Loui Al-Fakhri — by
first round TKO. His next win, a knockout of former NBA player Nate
Robinson on the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. undercard in November,
went viral.
