Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight battle has
been rebooked for an upcoming March event.
At UFC Fight Night 183 in December, Misha
Cirkunov (15-5) and Ryan Spann
(18-6) were slated to square off against one another, only for the
match to fall through when Cirkunov
suffered an injury. The promotion promised the pairing would be
maintained for a future event, and on Thursday, the UFC announced
that Cirkunov vs. Spann has been placed on
UFC Fight Night 187. The two will meet at the UFC Apex in Las
Vegas on March 13.
Latvian-Canadian finisher Cirkunov has alternated first-round
stoppage wins and losses in his last four, with submissions over
Patrick
Cummins and Jimmy Crute
interspersed between knockout defeats to Glover
Teixeira and Johnny
Walker. Cirkunov last competed in September 2019 against Crute,
pulling off a miraculous Peruvian Necktie – the second in company
history – while also becoming the first man to beat Crute.
Spann had a major eight-fight win streak halted in his last
performance, suffering a controversial loss to Walker when Spann
appeared to absorb illegal blows to the back of the head. The
knockout loss ended a run that included four UFC wins over the
likes of Sam Alvey,
Devin
Clark and Antonio
Rogerio Nogueira. As a pro, the Fortis MMA standout posts a
high finish rate of 83 percent.
UFC Fight Night 187 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas will be held on
March 13, and earlier on Thursday, it gained a new headliner.
Appearing in the top billing at welterweight will be Leon
Edwards taking on short-notice replacement Belal
Muhammad. Other noteworthy matchups booked on the card include
Dan Ige
against an undisclosed opponent, and Ben Rothwell
vs. Philipe
Lins at heavyweight.
